Great to see that we've made progress though, to quote Dostoevsky(via Con-Air, won't pretend to be more cultured than I am) "The degree of civilization in a society can be judged by entering its prisons". To me it's obvious that you only make progress through reform and improvement of humanity, that means finding better solutions to problems we deal with emotionally rather than logically.

Documentaries are fantastic for building perspective, giving you a glimpse of a life you couldn't possibly imagine living, to do that makes you a deeper and more considered human. If you ever want to learn anything from history you need to get inside the heads of the people that were there, to empathise with their motives and understand their actions. Some people see this as weak, but really those that would meet crime with brutality are weak mentally and are amazingly short-sighted.

Great post.

Mate, then seriously, check ole Trevor's one. When Trevor talks to the guy with inmate Ronald L Sanford (twice). Christ...

Left me feeling sad, considering. And the music.

Cheers man, appreciate the rep too. Cool

I will watch it, I was told about it when it came out just never got round to it. On the subject of prisons there's about 3 separate Louis Theroux prison docs, the Miami and paedophile ones are really good.

Watched the below during the week. Its the story of The New York Cosmos and the way the club started, signing Pele and how American "Soccer" failed but the follow on from it. Its one of the best football films I have ever seen - and the soundtrack is superb as well. Some right character in it to say the least. The Italian striker is a fucking nutter Laugh

Tonight on BBC4 there is a very good doco on as well. Its all about a guys life story who was a magician but ended up debunked guys like Uri Geller/faith healers/those dodgy religious scam cunts in the 70's. Very interesting guy and it has one size of a twist in it as well. Storyville on BBC does some excellent programs.

Watched this documentary about a guy who shot a police officer on Boxing day years ago. He got friendly with a guy in prison who was due to be released. And hatched up a plan with him to escape. Wait til you hear (via recorded phone calls) what he wanted the guy to do to help him escape Laugh

Anybody seen any decent documentaries of late?

Saw a trailer at the cinema the other day for a Joseph Gordon-Levitt film. Seems to be a point-for-point retelling of Man on Wire except not a doc. Bit strange.

I heard about it when Myers did WTF and it sounded interesting. I was just hoping against hope that he would be able to make something that Kevin James would turn his nose up at.

Supermensch stands alone as a very enjoyable documentary about a remarkable guy, and as a relief to me who still answers 'Wayne's World' when asked what his favourite film is.

Citizen Koch - 8/10

Documentary detailing how the Citizens United Supreme Court decision, changed how much money businesses and wealthy people can put into political campaigns, which has given rise to the Tea Party. Some are putting in tens of millions to try and get their candidates in and it was shown that they'd even contributed to influencing Supreme Court judges.

Still on Netflix if folk want a watch.

Been twatting though Louis Theroux on Netflix even though I've seen almost all of them before, the best ones are probably the two he's done on Israel, gambling and the paedophile prison.

Last night I watched When Louis met Paul & Debbie about Paul Daniels. With the ones he's done on Jacko and Saville you have the feeling that all the ones Theroux has done on individuals relate to sex scandals and possible rumours amongst celebrity circles.

Always thought Paul Daniels was a glaring omission from Yewtree lists.
