NEIL WARNOCK ON CALLUM PATTERSON:

"Callum is not ready yet. He scored a great hat-trick. We thought it was Aguero or someone! We gave him a round of applause."

"He’s got to get that power but we’re not pushing him and we don’t need him at the minute. We want him to be 100 per cent.
Long term, (Gordon) Strachan mentioned about the size of the team, I imagine Paterson before his injury, people like him will look to get back in the Scottish side. To get him like we did was a no-brainer, even though i knew we wouldn’t see him till around November. He’s just got to keep doing what he’s doing."

"He’s playing games now so if i felt I needed him on the bench I would do."

One of the biggest mistakes this regime has made not keeping him under contract.

Makes a mockery of the academy if we don't learn our lesson from Funk and the wee welt Walker.

He didn't want to sign a new contract.  Not much you can do.

Bosman put paid to all that. There is plenty to blame the current Hearts regime for but Paterson leaving isn't one of them.

Players like that should never be allowed to get within 2 years of free agency. Either keep them contracted or sell whem you can still get dece fee. Fill the contract with team options and release clasues. Win win for both sides

Not better for a player to run their contract down if they want a move as it opens up their options?

I see it two ways either Hearts knew a few years in advance that Paterson wouldn't sign a new deal and failed to cash in at the height of the players asset or Hearts never bothered to keep their eye on the ball and inquired when the player had all the leverage.

Either way they failed and must be held accountable for a seven figure loss of income.

Funk should have been offered a new deal at the end of the championship season, for him tied down for 4 years at that point. Total mistake not to.

The plan was to punt him to pay for the stand, injuries fucked that one really. As bad as it is to see him go, it would be a shame to hold him back. He’s far too good for us.

Funk was going to be sold in January for about £1m+ but his injury fucked that for us unfortunately :Monty Oh Well

Just gave I look forward to that sweet sell on clause when someone like Everton shell out £20m for him in a couple years Piggy

You aren't quite grasping this. Nobody is judging the club on whether Funk signed a contract or not. Some are judging the clubs reaction to him refusing to sign a contract and/or not offering him a contract earlier than they did.
