I'm considering that one ^^

High mileage as you said but i think if i could get it down to 2500 it'd be a fair price.

That's alright. I've seen slightly newer ones with much higher mileage going for double that. If it's been looked after it'll easily do over 200k

Anything over 150k i'll probably avoid.

There's a lot of decent ones further south but it's a waste of journey if i head down to say manchester and it's a pile of shite.

I'll get something eventually, just need to resist the impulse buy.

Cheers for the advice every cant

You thought about a Seat Leon? Pretty sure it's the same TDI engine you get in the Golf which is fucking bulletproof and you'll pick one up cheaper with lower mileage than either the Golf or the A3

Had a scirocco 2.0 tsi which was an absolute beast, but I had to give it back when I left my previous job.

Have you considered renting a car? I forget what the three-letter acronym for it is.

I don't do it (like you alluded to, I saw the type of car I wanted online, then went down to Gateshead to buy it, regardless of how shit it was when I got there Warnock ), but a couple of mates swear by it.

I have considered it, but being self employed i hate taking direct debits on as I don't really know what I'll be making each month. Plus with moving out soon it's just one thing less i want to think about.

Really don't want to go down the route of taking credit cards and shit out as it's a downward spiral. Just like spending what I have in my bank account. Not to knock folk who do it, just not for me.

Never really considered Seat. Will have a look. Got my heart set on the A3 but definitely open to persuasion Laugh

Nice.

Tbf i could buy an old banger of an A3 and stick 19'' wheels on it and it'll look decent Laugh

A guy at a place i work has a scirocco. Nice car but he dropped 15 grand on it, is 28 years old and still lives with his parents. Took the shine off his fancy new car for me anyway Laugh

I only do it because I can get decent interest free periods. Saves using car finance.
Just transfer the balance when the time runs out.

Did the same thing to buy my iPhone, saved about £400 on an equivalent contract.

Loved it. The 2 litre tsi is a total whippet, really fast. I lucked out with a top of the range interior as well, so it was an incredible car. Loved driving it, great control, hold, power, great sound system etc. Only downside was the poor rear visibility but you just need to use the wing mirrors more. If you don't need a practical car because you have a child or one on the way then there are honestly no downsides, though that model is pretty thirsty.

Ye I'm not planning on having kids any time soon Laugh

Very tempted by them, I originally considered it before going for my current car. Can pick up some decent second hand ones now too since the new model is about 3/4 years old.

You'd get it at a decent price if you put your beemer to it.

Finish paying it off in December so might hold off till it's fully paid and have a look about then.

Still pinning for the Evoque.

Nice cars, would like one of them.

Just having a look at golfs, absolutely no decent ones in my price range. All mk4's that look like right ned motors. The newer golfs are lovely but you're looking at 6 grand for a 5 year old one.

Same here. Been considering a Dodge Journey, probably drives like a piece of shit but looks better than the usual 7 seaters
