I'm in the same boat regarding the TV wall mounted. Anyway to find out where the studs are? Surely cant mount it on plasterboard even with the correct fixings.

Definitely not! Gently thump along your wall and you should be able to source them, or measure 400mm(sometimes 600mm) from the start of the wall and you should find a stud, then just check whether they are 400mm or 600mm centres

When you think you've found them by precision tapping allied to well-honed listening skills drill a tiny hole first to check you're going into timber. Tiny holes are easier to fill pretty-much invisibly if you find you've missed!

There are little devices that claim to tell you when you're over the stud but I'm not sure they're 100% accurate.

Not DIY as such, but how often do you cretins get your boilers serviced? Any recommendations in Edinburgh?

Cheers for the boiler recommendations guys. Lampoon

Someone here’s a sparky, aren’t they? Our hob has stopped working (but the oven still works). Whole thing, not just a single ring.

Whenever you press the big red switch to turn the hob on, it trips the RCD circuit breaker thing in the fuse box:

We’ve tried changing the fuse under this wee cover (tbh I don’t know what it does Woy Not Sure ) but no joy.

Any suggestions (other than “clean your hob” )?

Best suggestion would be to get an engineer out to look at it.  I could be wrong but I’m not sure a sparky would fix your cooker as the issue is a faulty hob not the wiring.

Chances are the RCD and fuses are fine if it’s only tripping out when you turn the hob on. Is the oven on that circuit too?

Would your insurance cover a repair?

One of the rings will be fucked and shorting out. Probably neutral side seeing as it’s tripping as soon as you switch it on. Need an appliance engineer to sort that but get a quote first because sometimes it’s cheaper just to replace

Cheers m8s. I’ve just checked and it turns out I’ve lied to you - it’s only one of the rings that’s causing the RCD to trip. Woy Not Sure Will the other shree rings be safe to use?
