As an aside, Stockbridge market is on a Sunday and there are some nice bars down that way. A pleasant way to spend a Sunday.

Every so often he'll have characters who are meant to be Glasgow bams get into unlikely situations then pause and think things like 'this could do good numbers if I tweet about it later'. Painful. Reading a self-help book called Feel the fear and do it anyway now. Find the weird grift these people have where they constantly nudge their readers towards their other products on the basis that they'll help them help themselves fascinating. They also strongly encourage readers to feel that pointing out inequality is evidence of a 'negative mindset' which will hold them back from personal success, rather than fighting against inequality being the way to address massive disparities in how much work is needed to achieve that success. Bit ideologically sinister imo. I read stuff like this every so often because I think there are some decent reminders in there, but can never get away from how well the idea of 'self-help' folds into neoliberal ideology.

Finally finished this while on holiday:
Bit of a fucking slog - took me about a year to get though it. Not sure why I persisted tbh, considering that I know how the story ends (not well), and because literally every character involved in the whole Brexit affair is inevitably a complete arsehole. There are parts that are easier to read than others (the account of how far Corbyn, Milne et al went in sabotaging the Remain campaign is intriguing and frustrating in equal measure), but given that it ends with Theresa May swooping in to take the PM gig in a blaze of glory, leaving poor wee Boris Johnson's dreams in tatters after being betrayed by Michael Gove, it's hard to share the author's obvious sympathies. Also raced through this in a day or two: One of those daft wee “jumping backwards and forwards in time, telling a story from different perspectives for the sake of dramatic tension†suspense books. Found it hard to take the main character's primary angst seriously , but it's twisty enough to be a decent holiday book.

That all out war book
Why would you read something endorsed by the Sunday times, Andrew marr, Fraser nelson and nick robinson. if it appeals to these professional pricks then I can easily imagine the tone of the book.

On a serious note, if you are getting bored of your echo chamber and want to read a palatable take from someone with differing views, I find Peter Oborne's books to be good. He's a Conservative but hates the political class that runs the show. So still a pleasing read. I'm in a sweet spot where I listen to biography's etc on Audible and read books like the above. Listened to Michael Bispings, Limmy's, Russel Brands, Ant Middleton's and David Goggins. Wouldn't have bought them to read. Pro tip for audible - you can listen to one and then return it and swap it over if you say it wasn't up your street. I reckon a book club would be a good shout. Must have some good reads between us all.

Fucking gimps man you can all meet for tea and scones at Budge's bit and talk shite about Brexit.
