Berra signed a 1 year extension in January 2019 which means he is contracted until the summer of 2021. After being injured against Celtic in August and subbed in the 2nd game of the 2018-19 season he didn't play again till mid December so wasn't really part of the good start to that season. Since then he has played in 38 of the 40 SPL games we've been involved in. His form has been about as dire as the teams throughout the last year, record with him in the team below. I think his lack of fitness and mobility is now hurting any leadership qualities he might bring to the table as he's having to worry about his own performance. It will be interesting to see what Stendel does in due course though of course its made more difficult by the injuries to Souttar and Haring.

38 SPL games

9 wins

20 defeats

9 draws

Didn't Doyle get a contract extension? Yet Silva made it onto the bench before him and he's about 3ft tall.
Fucks that all about.

Berra was our best player before his injury. Absolutely no one questioned the extension.

Think you are right he got the extension on the back of being decent in the 2017-18 season but then only played a handful of games (2 SPL games) between May 2018 and December 2018 after a bad injury and was then given an extra year in January 2019 without seeing if he would return to form. Could have had him off the books after this season otherwise freeing up substantial wages.

He was players player and fans player of the year in his 'decent' season. It would have been absolutely bizarre if we had let the club captains contract run down at that time.

That's strange as here's what you said the day he signed his new deal

Hardly a glowing report is it, he was good before he got injured but we were better with Dunne and Souttar.

Yeah but we didn't give him extension after that season we gave him it after he had barely kicked a ball in 7 months coming off a bad injury. Anyway, there are far worse contracts than his extra year on the books even if he has more of an Aaron Hughes role next season he'll be useful to have around. Others not is much!

Berra was quality a year or two ago, was streets ahead as our best and most valuable player.

His legs just went. It happens at a certain age and it can sometimes be very sudden.

“Pretty much the perfect partnership”

“Hardly a glowing report is it”

I’m with GB. Berra was superb, but his legs have gone now. Unfortunate, but it happens. Will wish him well when he moves on.

Yep up till his injury v Celtic he was a brilliant defender for us but he’s a man down now. Smit at CB is not the answer however, very good both defensively and going forward.
