The money United have spent over the last 2-3 seasons should have them better than they are, to absolve Solskjaer of any blame would be silly. Problem is a lot more complicated than just the manager though.

City and Liverpool are current anomalies, I'd say. United were missing three very important players yesterday in Pogba (they should move him on imo), McTominay (aye, he's no Makelele) and obviously Rashford, their main man up front. They competed relatively well against the best team in Europe ('maybe even ever' lol).
With a bit of tweaking here and there I fancy them to be there or thereabouts, unfortunately!
Agree with Pondy,
I like what Ole is building at Manchester United. I think he deserves a longer to finish what he's started. The Man United recruitment has failed him. Man Utd are the top three clubs in the world and Ole is Norwegian, yet Dortmund secured Halaand? This shows that that something is not right with the suits who do the negotiations. They can't seem to offload Pogba either. Offload Pogba, get Coutinho in. They should've had Halaand in and another quality midfielder. They have some superb young defenders coming through the academy. Tanzebe, Williams etc... When they can replace Shaw and Lindelof, they'll be good to go but they need experience first.

But there's a lot of mid table shite in that team that needs purged. And a lot of players who could do with understanding that this is the biggest club they will ever play for. If United haven't improved by this team next year, it would be fair to talk about getting rid of him, but Mourinho couldn't win them a league. Neither could Van Gaal. Chopping and changing the manager every 18 months isn't going to build any kind of stability that they desperately need.

I think Solskjaer could be part of the re-build though. He can return the United ethos to the club, he seems to have a talent/personality of giving young players confidence and get a good vibe going about the club playing the classic attractive United style of play, direct and to the wings. Agreed it's unlikely he can take them to the very top though. But with these superclubs, Real Madrid and Barca often employ NPC's as managers, but the infrastructure and recruitment is so spot on that they really only need trainers/coaches to keep it all ticking over. Constantly chasing big name managers is more for your clubs like Chelsea etc... Even Liverpool had Dalglish, Hodgson, Rodgers and Klopp. These are more attempts at bottom-up rebuilds of clubs than going for Allegri, Mourinho, Van Gaal, Ancelotti etc... That shouldn't be the Man Utd way.

I agree with most of that but when Man U look so far off the pace and pochettino is sitting there waiting I think it's a no brainier tbh. Get him in and give him 4 years no matter what and you'll get success. I don't see that with solskjaer. He's soft and seems just delighted to be at the club.

The problem is the Glazers and Woodward. The former are using the club as a cash cow, the latter has no clue how to properly conduct transfer business. Can Ole be blamed for the shenanigans going on with the owners and the CEO? Sure, blame him for some of the tactical stuff etc but he's got one hand tied behind his back at the minute. His pedigree perhaps doesnt help attracting big names but they cant attract big names just now anyway because of the utter shambles going on off the pitch.
The Price of Football podcast on it, is a good listen (as are all editions): https://player.fm/series/the-price-of-fo...he-glazers (01-20-2020, 11:47 AM)Ross Kemp On Spice Wrote: I agree with most of that but when Man U look so far off the pace and pochettino is sitting there waiting I think it's a no brainier tbh. I thought this up until recently (also Poch might have to stay unattached for a wee while for pay-off reasons) but the stories from Poch is that he went in a big huff with the Tottenham team and completely lost the dressing room. He's a great manager, but not the certainty that I thought he was. Add in what Jeff says and suddenly Poch becomes more of a risk than I thought - he might not be able to navigate the United politics the way Solksjear can thanks to his knowledge of the club.
Don't usually care about EPL, but Man Utd team of the near future could be:
------------------De Gea-------------- Wiliams---Macguire---Tanzebe---Wan Bissaka -----New MF--Mctominay-New MF------ ----Martial------Rashford----Greenwood It's clear they need to shift, Matic/Mata/Lingard/Pereira/Fred/Pogba and bring in new midfielders - Solsjkaer deserves a chance to do this. It's a joke that they aren't bringing in a couple of big names this January tbh. Countinho, Maddison and John Mcginn (controversial) could work.

I'm with AP on this one, the fact Poch got that Spurs team to a Champions League final and the positions he's had them in the league is quite something, particularly when you consider that Levy didn't let him buy anyone for a year. You see what Jose's been left with and I find it more impressive that Poch had them as high as he did for so long.
I can see what you're all saying about keeping Ole about for this but yea if you've got a manager of Poch's calibre sitting there in his garden then you've got to take a punt on him and let him loose and give him money to spend. Depends how much they care about securing Champions League football next season. I think they should forget about it though and take one more season to build, with a big push for 2022. Pep will have fucked off by then too. You just can't turn this shitshow around in a few months, I know the fans are desperate for that however. Like Budge demanding 4th place from Stendel

Proof if needed the fact they're quibbling over a couple million pound on this boy Fernandes with Sporting. They're the 3rd richest club in the world, pay the money.

It's obvious it runs deeper than the manager but under the same set of circumstances LVG and mourinho managed champions league football and trophies so it's still possible to achieve some success in the current set up.
I'd agree usually that it's best to give the manager time but OGS is so clearly out of his depth.

Did Ole not say something like they must be a good team because Man City went almost full strength against them in a cup semi final?
Worse than Neilson's money spinner comments
