Just sorting out my hundreds of photos from years ago and came across a 5-1 at the 1998 Belgian GP. Warnock

See when you're there do you just see a few motors whizzing by then just sit and wait until they come whizzing by again?

It’s a bit like horse racing but with faster horses and windier tracks.

Few years back I was in Montreal at the time of the Canadian Grand Prix and thought it the perfect opportunity to take in a F1 race, something I'd always wanted to do.  Well, I hit the web researching, availabe tickets, reviews including pics of views from those areas/seats etc.  I was faced with an expensive ticket, ridic wake-up time and eaarly Sunday travel followed by queuing before the gates opened, a sprint to the best spots and then waiting for hrs until the race started, no doubt followed by the usual cars whizz by screaming then silence until the next time.

Of course Montreal probably isn't the best place for last min tix, and I'm sure I could have probably avoided all the unnecesssary hassle described above hd I descided to drop 500 blabs or so for a seated ticket but really, it kinda came down to the fact that F1 had become shit by then.  Monty Oh Well

I do however, envy those who went along when it genuinely seemd fair.  Fat Cunt

Why didn’t you just get the kids to set up their Scalextric? Surely a similar effect to watching F1 these days? Jezza

Aye. But fast cars get round quicker so its not long before its basically cars going past all the time. Its better at the track than on the TV.

If you don't buy grandstand tickets then it is a race for the best spots. That is the drawback. You get there and can't move. If you went by yourself you'd lose your spot if you went to the toilet or went for something to eat. Basically you should buy grandstand tickets for a GP.

Aye, this was a predicament for me that weekend. I could probably have put up with all the initial bullshit, hell I've done enough of that over the years (just for sporting events, alone) but the thought of having to remain in the same spot for hours on end didn't appeal.

Of course there's ore to it than just the race as you know fine well, and I'm sure I would have enjoyed wandering around half-cut or baked, or both but I've always been an advocate of trying to do the experience right so passed.

Boy I knew up north used to go every year, siad it was a great long weekend in the city. I don't doubt it!

I've done Belgium 3 times and only once was I in the stands. Luckily there was a few of us the other times so we managed to keep our spots. Qualifying is ok to wander and check different parts of the track but on race day its just too busy. Monty Oh Well
