Very decent specs for the price. Vega 8 graphics will run Minecraft without much bother. SSD means it'll be pretty nippy, and 256GB is plenty of storage. Looks like it's had very good reviews too. https://www.expertreviews.co.uk/honor/14...ook-review

Free smartwatch and backpack too. Quite Good I would buy this for myself if I hadn't just bought a Surface Pro.

She’s not really a gamer, unless you count minecraft, so not needing anything too high powered, but equally don’t want to buy something cheap that I’ll have to replace in a year either.

Looking for some suggestions on what would be decent. Jezza

Anything up to around £400/£500 I reckon. vladchin

I don’t want to go OTT but at the same time I don’t want to just buy something at £150 that will break or be no use in a couple of weeks.

She’s already got an iPad that she’s been using for her school work along with a Bluetooth keyboard, but I think going forward a laptop will be a bit easier.

At that price you’ll probably be looking at an i3 processor (processor one of most important bits as is the part that handles the majority of the work), 8gb RAM (RAM allows more processes to be running at once), integrated graphics which means you’re not getting a dedicated chip to handle graphics and either 256SSD or 500HDD. SSD is better as it’s a lot faster so reads data quicker but you get less space.  I’ve always just taken the bigger HHD if I have the choice as I don’t feel like I need it.  Again comes down to preference whether you want speed or size.  In my experience for just a daily use laptop for a wee bit work and gaming i don’t think the speed is hugely different but you’ll notice it if you’re a big PC gamer or whatever.

Lenovo is a good brand as it’s very well recognised but has to offer a bit more to compete with dell/HP etc.  Personally I’d avoid brands that I haven’t heard of like Acey posted but it’s up to you.  I’ve had a lot of issues with random odd brand computers over the years in work so I personally don’t invite the hassle but you’ll obv get more for your buck from brands like that.

If you can get an i5 processor (or AMD equivalent) and 8gb of RAM for your price I’d jump on it, if not the i3 will still do the job.  Have a look at curry’s etc to get an idea of what is on the market and when you find one you like jump on websites like laptop direct as their range is much bigger and you’ll probably find something either the same or similar for cheaper.

Good luck, I fucking hate buying laptops Warnock

Should’ve mentioned don’t worry too much about the memory infact as it’s so cheap these days to buy a wee external portable drive if you do need more space.

Last time I bought a laptop I think a 1TB external HDD was over 100, I think they must be about 40 quid now Laugh

Would just go for cloud storage over external HDDs tbh. Microsoft OneDrive gives you 5GB of free storage (I think) and auto-saves your Word docs etc so you never have to worry about losing stuff. Much less hassle & risk than backing up to a physical disk.

Aye I use cloud storage for documents but used to have a wee external drive to download games and films on to instead of having big files sitting there doing nothing.

I’ve got a 2TB HDD on my Xbox but was maybe thinking about changing it to SSD.  Not sure if it would make a big difference to load times in single player?

It should do, but it'll depend on the individual game. No doubt there'll be proper HDD/SSD comparisons if you google it. Fart Smelly

Solid specs, and a shree year guarantee thrown in is very good. Have seen similar-spec laptops go much cheaper in sales tbf (https://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/hp-14-l...ao-3378356), but even at £500 it looks like a decent shout.

I've pulled the trigger on this. Irritating that they were basically a hundred quid cheaper last year at this spec but hey ho.

Assuming you’re talking about golf clubs? If so there’s a place in Loanhead that sells clubs second hand, can buy online as well.
