Looking at ideas for Honeymoon as getting married next year. We have brainstormed so many places but because we haven’t been to any of the places we want to go it’s hard to gauge what exactly to do and how long to book for.

Initially thought of South Africa then Maldives but was ridiculously pricy.

Swaying towards Mexico then potentially Hawaii but it’s a bit of a cunt to get to.

Also looked at Japan/Fiji. So we are all over the place trying to agree  Warnock

So sort of back to square 1.

Interested to see where anyone on here went in theirs and any good tips/suggestions.

Fucking loved Mexico. Stayed at the Riu tequila near Playa del Carmen. Great hotel, wee town with plenty pubs clubs etc, superb beach and loads excursions and trips and shit. Think it’s my favourite place I’ve been tbh Warnock

We went to the Dominican for ours, which was superb too tbf. Would go back but would go to a different hotel.

Depends what you’re looking for. Cuba was great, there’s excursions to do and it’s pretty relaxed but you’re basically stuck in your hotel unless you go on an excursion.

I stayed at the hotel across the road from Khali in Mexico and it was quality, but for our honeymoon we went to El Dorado Royale and it’s the best place I’ve ever been, there’s 12 restaurants, bars all over the place, the beach is amazing. It was just the best and it wasn’t too pricey.

Jamaica was also a lot of fun, but was more expensive than Mexico and not as good.

Have a look at Mauritius as well, that’s where we looked first, but then decided to do a week in New York and then 8 days in Mexico. Flights from NYC to Mexico were actually relatively cheap, think it was about £70 each

Mexico is class and there’s not much between any of the hotels. We’ve stayed at the moon palace the last couple of times and it’s out of this world.

Cheers for the recommendations chaps. Mexico looking likely as we seen some really good hotels in PDC. Would staying in cancun for a few days for going tonto then settling down in Playa Del Carmen be a stupid move? I seen it’s like an hour in a taxi between them and not sure how pricy it would be shuttling between them.

What were the best excursions?

Kash - We looked at Mauritius but my aunties been and said gets very boring very quickly so think will be patching that.

Mikey - Any suggestions for when in Hawaii? Did you stay Honolulu?

Just patch Cancun and get comfy in PDC for the whole time. You can easily go tonto in PDC, it’s a decent sized city.

Go to Coco Bongos Pinilla

Not been to Playa del Carmen but pretty sure it's just a slightly smaller version of Cancun, probably more geared at couples/resorts than the Spring Break scene in Cancun but think there are still tons of bars and massive clubs there.

Get yourself down to Tulum and out to a couple cenotes for a class day out Sound

Edit: as Kash says a night at Coco Bongos is essential Pinilla

There’s the eco-parks like Xel-ha and Xcaret that are good fun and quite interesting too. Swimming with dolphins on Cozumel, or just a wee day trip to Cozumel.

Chichen Itza is the main excursion but it’s 3 hours away. Good day out though and one of the 7 new wonders of the world.

Then you’ve got all your standard sea fishing, catamaran, wind surfing and stuff like that

Also, Coba, Tulum and get yourself down to a Cenote

One of my favourite parts of going on resort holidays is making a wee group of pals and then drinking with them every night, ended up drinking a 70cl bottle of tequila on my birthday last time, went on a catamaran trip the next day and was spewing everywhere

I was on Honolulu, not far from Waikiki beach. Went up to the North Shore as well and went diving with sharks and went round the big national park where they film Jurassic Park and all The Rock's films  GodIsGod

Tonnes of stuff do like. Loads of amazing restaurants and hotels at Waikiki.

My mate had his honeymoon on Maui and he said it was brilliant. Him and his missus are big into their weed and apparently it's like Woodstock there.

We went to Mauritius for ours - was class, but I can see why someone who's keen to be always on the go might say that it could get boring. It's a tiny island (think it takes just over an hour to get from one end to the other) and the resorts are where it's at, albeit there's some great snorkeling etc to do. I was quite happy to lie around getting pished and eating well for most of my time there.  Warnock

We went to Maui on our honeymoon and it's a superb holiday destination. Quite a trek to get there but worth it, went via SF so did a couple of days in Napa/Sonoma which is a great stopover depending on flights. As you say lots of activities and the dining is top notch.

Mauritius sounds superb. The opportunity to lie on a beach, or beside a pool, and do nothing but read, drink and head for some food, should never be underestimated. If kids arrive, then they are all out of the window, except, bizarrely enough, when the kid is under 1. I mean you can go to the beach, and eat and drink well, but you cannot get 5 minutes to read a book. Laugh

So to do all that, interspersed with swimming in the sea, snorkelling, water sports, and eating very well, under a tropical sky, sounds ideal. "Boring". Wiggo

Absolutely. I like the thought of it but after about 5 or 6 days stuck in the same place we get a bit fed up so don’t want to be at each other’s throats on our honeymoon  Warnock
