See also Don Cowie (and insert any other shite player that does a few positive things in a game) Edit: https://www.hmfckickback.co.uk/index.php...alty-king/ Quote:First name on the team sheet for me now. Absolutely crucial. Effort, skill, and absolutely loves the Hearts now. Cult hero status for years awaits.

He was such a confidence player He would go on great runs for 2-3 games and then disappear again.

This would be more accurate in describing players like David Templeton, Salius Mikoluinas etc... By "he would go on great runs for 2-3 games" you mean he would do a couple of positive things in a match - actually do his job for a couple of games before going back to mediocrity? I do think he can play, but he needs to find a position. Hopefully he's done that now.

In my experience they all hated him a lot for a long time until he settled a wee bit under Stendel. The guy was booed onto and off the park for about 6 month. Do agree with the point about coddled academy players in general but he'd been released and come back from the Nike academy so think he's a different case.

It's not just the pen he's referring to. The boy is describing the player in general, kidding himself on saying "he is absolutely crucial" to Hearts, when reality is you would never give him a second thought the moment the door hit his arse on the way out, and so it proved.

Clare will mainly be remembered for scoring a few penalties and also giving them away just about every week when he played right back

Clare seemed like a good guy. He came into hearts at a bad time and wasn't a good place for any player to try kick on especially if the pressure was having a big effect on him. I don't really think many at all would've viewed him as a cult hero mind, he improved a bit towards the end but it was obvious it probably wasn't going to work out for him here. I do remember him getting booed all the time as well, pretty shan because it all came from him having a daft wee nickname for himself and Levein saying he's the next Delli Ali, he probably wasn't any worse than anyone else in the team.
Hope he does well in his career going forward.

Aye you're probably right He scored 14 goals in 75 games (63 starts) but i think about half of them were pens or pre season dross. I think towards the end when we played him in a settled position he was starting to look better.

At some point you're going to need to let a player settle and it seemed to take ages for Clare to get that and by then it was too late anyway. He was a really easy option for manager to have a bit of a hole in the team then just expect Clare to play there after playing different positions the weeks before. Not good enough for where we want to be but that entire time at hearts must've been murder to be involved in.

I wasn't trying to say it was his fault Levein kept moving him about I actually think he'd do quite well in this team. Would probably swap him for Walker

Ik the irrational hate for Walker but love for Clare. Unreal

Good post, Morph. Reality is it's hard to judge, based predominatly on the environment at the time. You realluy have to be an exceptional player to have any profound effect on a shite team. He wasn't. A decent, athletic carboard cut-out Academy player that was never going to cut it at any upper level. I'll only ever remember him by his equaliser up at Perth. Great live moment.

Rabbit in headlights stuff. In his early 20s and didn't even have "a position". Just floated about midfield a bit lost, or pissing about in right back. A certain poster on JKB (prolific poster) stated Clare would play at a higher level than Hickey...
