Daft hyperbole aside this is basically what you'll get with Neilson in almost every derby and it's why some will never truly take to him.
On the surface of it, he's unquestionably done a good job: Won the Championship both times, agonisingly close to winning the cup, and on course for another 3rd place finish in the top league. Yet all those tepid derby games and a few humiliating early losses in the cups seriously undermine all that in the eyes of the fans. Paulo Sergio will always be fondly remembered for winning the cup, stuffing Hibs every time, and just being one charismatic guy who held a patchwork squad together that wasn't being paid. All those many fucking terrible results and performances just don't matter when you do the important things. Made some terrible signings and nearly got us relegated in 1999 but he won the fucking cup and regularly scudded Hibs so he was, is, and always will be a Hearts legend. Have we ever actually played well in a derby under Neilson? That first win seems a long time ago now and that semi, let's be honest, owed a fair bit to Craig Gordon. Neilson will never win a major trophy as Hearts manager (I would love to see this post bite me in arse) so derbies and Euro trips are really all that's left. Because of that, he's only ever going to be 2-3 bad games away from fans wanting him gone.

For some reason I'm really angry about this game but it's probably not too bad a result overall. Neilson just strikes me as a guy that is a safe third place but we'll never/very rarely have that buzz of putting Hibs away, winning a cup or beating the OF. It's the question of what you want - get rid of him and you could have a Levein/Stendel type who got us relegated but beat Hibs and the OF a few times.

It was the first derby in a while where i thought we'd actually turn them over, only to be let down again.
Big games matter, for some of us.

Neilson's derby record is really poor man. Kind of forgot about how shit it was after we beat them in the cup semi a couple of year ago.
