I'm sure it's easy to hire a car in Iceland. I'm just wondering what it's like to drive around. Scenery, roads in the countryside etc..

I think it can be quite dangerous, and not advised for inexperienced drivers.
At least that's what a boy I worked with from Finland said about there, and I imagine the winters are comparable.

Thus far it's been fine. I've got a Begbie-esque Kia Picanto , so hardly a 4x4. If you're on the equivalent of A roads in Scotland, odds are they'll be cleared and pretty much fine to drive on.
The smaller roads though. Have had a couple of wheel-spin moments already.
9:20am and it's pitch dark outside.
