Snatched Dennis Wyness from under Aberdeen's nose
For the most part, the young Scottish players we get are the ones who look good in poor sides but whom neither the Old Firm nor English sides really want, like Ian Black or Darren Barr.

Appreciate it's a mixed bag. But the point is Hearts used to be quite on the front foot when it came to who was looking ready to move up from Raith, Dundee, Falkirk type clubs.

My point might have been too subtle - the club have been but players are asking for wages 'beyond our means' hence why some of the dross was signed. Shankland's a (rumoured) good example. Both ourselves and Hibs asked. Both were given a figure beyond what they were willing to pay and Utd's new owner decided to fund it. See also Rory McAllister and Aberdeen. Fraser Fyvie's 'rumoured' (actually on) to be on more at Cove than when he was at Hibs and Utd because their owners foot the bill. If players price themselves out, its little wonder teams, including Hearts, look elsewhere. But don't take this as any defence of the transfer policy. Its been utterly dreadful but there is the odd mitigating factor.

Matty Kennedy St J. Width, pace, knows the league, out of contract in summer, weakens a competitor. We should move to get in Jan. Prevent Aberdeen pre contract. Good example of the best of the rest I was saying.

Or - or - we could refuse to back Stendel and he can count the weans coming back from loans as new signings

What worries me, and genuinely correct me.
Budge has told Stendel it's pretty much 1 out, 1 in. Stendel is trying his best to make this happen by telling Whelan and Berra they are no longer needed. But Berra remains on the wage bill. So limited freeing up so far. Hearts have said focus just now is on getting players out. And Levein and MacPhee are joint DoFs and they are in charge of getting interest in players moved on. What is Levein's motivation? He's getting paid anyway. Working half days. Doesn't want new guy to look good let's face it. Budge on holiday on the beach. We're no making it easy for It's Your Daniel are we? Although good to see Colt arrive. That's 8 days of the 31 of the Window gone. Normally it'd be light interest from me knowing Jan is a blow out. But this is different. Relegation battle. Terrible form. Terrible squad. New manager. We need an overhaul. Urgently. (Again.) This has to be one of these windows where we see 5 players on the pitch scarves held high. I just hope we're REALLY helping Daniel. A quarter of the window over. 1 player off the wage bill. 0 in.

Sunderland crowing in the Northern Echo that Boyce is their manager's number one target and knowing Hearts have a very restricted budget, they are confident of easily out bidding us. Opening bid of £250k plus big wages.
Honestly. Fuck off. How much money have we wasted on agents, duds, managers, payoffs, contractors, construction overspend and vanity projects? Now poor Daniel is getting crumbs to save us. Even lowly Gillingham saying Lee has been OK, but not exceptional. Make no mistake even if we lose every game til May. This is ALL on Budge.

I think Berra will find another club a league or two down this window if he is serious about wanting to keep playing, otherwise it is game over and he retires which surely must be some clause in his contract? Whelan is already away, so we can bring at least one in now.
Still over 3 weeks of the window left which isn't ideal for Stendel to get his squad shaped up but deals and timing never favour the desperate. I saw enough in the Aberdeen game to see that sort of lineup brush aside Airdrie so 2 weeks until the relegation fight continues. Budge being on holiday is only an issue if she doesn't have an internet connection or is staying sober. Reckon a pished Budge on the beach would be more likely to throw cash at Stendel's cause anyway. I hope Levein is told to fuck off as the transfer window shuts and the locks get changed at Riccarton.

As for Lee, they want him back, so he's obviously done something right there. |
