I was going to post this in the Dundee thread but felt it could get lost in there.

Anyway I was in the Gorgie on Saturday. We do this at least once a season and it's usually fantastic. Saturday though? Where to begin. The place was full as usual but there was quite a few folk in dressed in jeans and jumpers. It's not too hard to put a suit on. That isn't the worst though. The service was appalling. Normally you have a waiter or waitress just for your table. It was 1 for 3 or 4 tables. 10 drinks ordered and 5 arrive. We waited for 20 minutes every single time for more. In the past the drinks kept coming. Then there's the food. It was the usual hospitality stuff but it too was taking an age. Some tables were being served desert at 10 to 3. I think we're usually done with the food by 2 o'clock. Scott Wilson mentioned a few times that it's award winning. Won't be for long as the complaints will be flying in today. £132 is a joke for that.

Is hospitality not split between full hospitality and hospitality-lite (strongbow lounge I think).

But if you paid 132 then it was probably the full whack.

Do you think it was a one-off?

Possibly short staffed due to isolation, etc? I mean there is a pandemic ongoing, not saying it justifies bad service if that's what you feel it was but maybe current circumstances mean you shouldn't expect the norm when you go to these things.

I did think the service would be worse than normal but a couple of times we got 5 drinks and then had to wait ages for the other 5. I had finished a pint and was waiting for another and 5 at our table still hadn't had their original drinks.

I done the strongbow lounge for the sheep game and was pleasantly surprised at the service tbh although I don’t think the kids doing the food have hygiene certificates Laugh

The dress code is meant to be strict for the full hospitality? It’s outlined on the form that comes with the ticket as well.

We were one of maybe 2 tables where everyone was dressed properly. At the rest at least 1 person was in jeans/t-shirt etc.

Hospitality has been destroyed by Covid. Was walking along Rose Street recently and there was a lot of pubs and restaurants looking for staff.

The lure of 1 shift a week at Tynie for 5-6 hours doesnt sound that appealing in the grand scheme of things.

In the past we had 1 waiter/waitress looking after us. They got a cracking tip too. Probably between £50 and £100 all because they kept us watered. That's a decent wage for about 6 hours work.

You can get dece tips other places as well though especially just now. They big sports hospitality shifts are notoriously utterly shite to work, the people who go act like fannies and you’re working a million miles an hour for a pittance.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they are toiling for staff as it’s bottom of the rung and there’s plenty bars and restaurants looking for staff atm where you’ll get better hours and pay.

Why you bothered at folk wearing jeans though who cares it’s just a piss up and some food Laugh Pretty sure I wore jeans to the skyline when I went and no one cared either.

The girlfriends laddie and his pal went a few years ago and he had to go and get a tie because he didn't have one on.

When they say there's a dress code and it used to be enforced why don't they bother now?

It was the season we got relegated I went so a few year ago, not sure what it’s like now.

If majority of people are just going to turn up wearing normal clothes then maybe they don’t see the point in enforcing it, correct decision imo really does not matter what other folk are wearing if they’ve paid their ticket Laugh

Why pay £132 then? What's the point because that's a lot of cash for a meal that doesn't fill you up and a supposed free bar? 10 drink maximum. Reckon I had 4 pints and 2 nips.

Going in a few weeks, hopefully they’re actually handing out pints by then Happy

Jeans and a t-shirt is probably too casual like but no danger you’d get me to wear a full suit and tie for the football.

Well I’m definitely not paying because I want to sit near folk who are wearing suits and ties anyway Laugh

It’s shit the service wasn’t good but I think pretty understandable why you didn’t have someone assigned to just your table given the circumstances just now.

There would be no staff shortages if they'd just pay the staff a decent wage. How many are in hospitality? 350? 300x132 is almost 40k. I'm saying 300 as there's quite a few people must get it free. Walter Kidd always seems to be there. Warnock

Delighted to hear Zico is still alive and well. Any other stars of yesteryear there, Curra?

That is absolutely piss poor.

Had heard decent things about the sky lounge and how the hospitality has been, so fuck knows what's going on there. I presume the big £100 tips arent that common maybe? If you're on £10 an hour and get a tip like that then it's obviously very good money for a student for a few hours on a saturday. But everywhere is struggling for staff, so no reason we woulwdnt be the same.

It might also just be that the staff they do have are shite and there's no training/poor management.
