Sometimes Hollywood just like an actor though and shoehorn them in, like Jennifer Lawrence. Or what the UK do with Olivia Coleman.
Not saying she's not a good actress, she is class but I just didn't think she was anything special in la la land. She just plays her usual self, which is good but not unique to the film in any way.
Just thought the film was lacking, kept expecting it to pick up and deliver on the hype about it and then it ended. Hollywood love a bit of self indulgence though and since so many people in Hollywood will be able to relate to the film I can see why it's up there for all the awards.
I would say though that the 2 roles given to Gosling and Stone would've been suited more to 2 actual musical theatre actors. Stone and Goslings singing and dancing weren't especially great.
