Pretty sure a specific aim of Al Qaeda attacks is to not harm Muslims. ISIS dgaf who is injured or killed by them.
It's very complicated. On the one hand, ISIS' sheer publicity and "success" in Syria and Iraq means it's dwarfed Al-Qaeda in importance over the last year or two, and inevitably attracted far more jihadis and assorted wankers. Plus, as you say, Al-Qaeda condemned them because even a network as monstrous as they are at least *thinks* it's acting in accordance with the Koran.
But on the other, Realpolitik will inevitably prevail among some who were formerly faithful to AQ. What I see tonight are multiple attacks (hallmark of AQ), extraordinarily co-ordinated... but the apparent involvement of so many and reported cries of things like "this is for Syria" suggests ISIS to me. Or at least, ISIS sympathisers.
The real fear is one day these bastards will get their hands on a dirty bomb. I think it'll inevitably happen. And that open borders across Europe make the security forces' task almost impossible.
