Is it just me though or do you actually feel a bit like you have to watch what you say with regards to this sort of thing as you don't know what government agency will be spying on you
Well... the day before Diana died, I went to a football match with a mate. On the way back, his car broke down, and he phoned his parents to let them know.
For some reason - I have no idea what, because it was a total non-sequitur - the IRA came up during the conversation. Whereupon, seconds later, he turned white. He could hear strange noises over the line. He gave me his phone to check... and I could hear them too.
Of course, that was actually only as it should've been. This was a year before Omagh, 7 months before the Good Friday Agreement, so the IRA were still a threat to the British state. It's natural that intelligence operatives would have ways of tapping the line if certain keywords are used. Was still quite chilling though.
