Interesting post. On your questions, I've no idea if I'd go to the train station myself - it'd depend on the circumstances - and if I was getting off a train as you suggest, I'd probably stand and smile at the commotion.
But I picked out the bit above because I think it's key. "In this day and age". What do you mean by that? "In this climate of media-fuelled fear"? Or something else?
