MMA is in a catch 22 situation, as on one hand you have people who want it to be respected as a sport, and on the other hand if you take away the 'cage fighter' vibe and theatre that that creates, the casual fans will realise that it's actually significantly less entertaining as a spectator sport than striking disciplines.
Why do they have to mix up the martial arts, many of which come from eastern philosophy? Seems to rip the soul out if it all. iirc Judo means "gentle way" while the MMA crowd probably think it translates as "rip that cunt's heid aff''. Not wanting to romanticise like an orientalist, but feels like the respect of these disciplines is being shat on by mixing it with gypsy-type paggering.
It's like chucking tennis, football, rugby and snooker in a cage and have drugged up AP types baiting the participants on.
