We had to tough. No one was exactly fuming with us binning those who went in January.
Watt - imposter, glad to see the back of him
Sammon - horse shit signing
Rossi - wanted away, we got some cash for him
Ozturk - was frozen out anyway before the new management came in
Muirhead - barely had a kick, he got himself a move down south
Five guys left permanently, none of which the current management could do anything about and no one was exactly upset that they left. Then Paterson & Souttar's seasons were finished by injury. Then two players went to the ACON. That was nine players gone in the manager's first 5-6 weeks that he had on control over. We HAD to bring in all these extra players, whether they were Levein's Cathro's, McPhee's or whoever else's decision. Hindsight is a great thing but looking back it was always going to end in disaster revamping half way through a season.
I'd said it long ago that from around end of December onwards it was always going to be a slug of an end to the season and was just a case of us getting through to the end, that we'd be inconsistent. We tried to bring in players on the cheap during the summer and it failed. We probably tried to do it on the cheap as the budget wasn't there due to building the new stand. But the club didn't say that and we got donkeys like Watt and Sammon instead.
It's been a shite season and something has to give because no one has been good enough. You change the management or the players. The management isn't going anywhere so why should we keep the same manager and the same players? Revamping preseason is different, you can actually work with the players and give them time to gel and get them ready. Not chuck them in during a season when some hadn't played in months and expect decent results.
Have we treated players poorly? Yes. Are most of the players good enough? No. A lot of them aren't up to the standard required and some of them don't even want to be here. So let's drain the swamp and start over. It's the biggest preseason since "Budgement Day" and they need to get it right.
