If we hadn't done it I think he'd have bitten through cables, tipped up all the plants and chewed up my records. Definitely need to keep an eye on them at all times for the first few weeks. Get some of that bitter spray to put on surfaces you don't want them to chew - Hovis loved getting stuck into the cheese plant, which is apparently a major irritant to dogs, never seemed to bother him, so we had to spray it.
The Crate, put her in, when she is quiet, then bring her out and reward her. Back in, then back out. We put him in to sleep on the first night and it's been totally natural ever since. Tbf he has slept through the night every night since we got him at 8 weeks, waking up between 6 and 7am to go out for the toilet, except a couple of times he had water later at night and woke us up at about 2, barking as he was needing to go out. We probably weren't as good at focusing on the crate as we would just have him out and play with him and train him on other stuff, plus Mrs S would commit the cardinal sin of reacting to his barking and bring him out of the crate when he wouldn't shut up. But having said that he is pretty god with it.
