Champ man a bit different though, it's not really got the platform to take advantage of that model but PES/fifa does. Predominantly single player games will continue to be released as they are (or on a subscription service) but online games will go down the free route.
Games as a service is defo going to be the norm very soon, tbh it already is for a lot of online games. I think that's Netflix looking to get into the space as well, and with things like game pass taking off the days of spending £60 a year on a recurring title are coming to an end. There's more money to be made churning out pointless cosmetic shit disguised as updates and add ons than creating new games every year.
I was surprised the new battlefield wasn't completely free or had a free mode, but it is going to release day 1 on game pass.
