They are both referendums so pretty similar. When the Tories got back into power they had every right to hold a referendum. They even warned people before they went to the polls that they would have a referendum on the EU if they won power. Here we are.
In the sense of the people supporting change. Too often, it's suggested that Yes voters are all peace and love, goodwill to all people socialists; while Brexit voters are all narrow-minded racists and nationalists.
The reality is rather different. But that's democracy. And the number one thing which both indy and Brexit have in common is: they make zero economic sense in either case. But identity trumps economics for many, quite reasonably so too.
