The training with the reserves narrative is being blown out of all proportion. For a variety of reasons first team squad members train regularly with the reserves and even the youth team especially when returning from injury or when they are seen as surplus to requirements and/or are looking for a new club. Its a nothing story made into a headline and Berra himself will have seen it throughout his career. He's speaking out as he knows he's done.
You aren't going to be starting from scratch and rebuilding like Stendel is from rock bottom of the SPL and allowing players who are not going to be involved to be part of things. He is trying to build a new culture, a new team spirit and get players on board with his methods and expectations. Whilst I don't doubt Berra's professionalism you can't have him training with the first team and then find in the next few days Wighton or White or Mulraney are in the same boat and have them down with the reserves. There is also a small possibility that a Hamilton or St Mirren come in for him and you don't therefore want him as part of our 1st team training over the next few weeks given whats to come over the next couple of months.
This is a line in the sand for those who want to be part of Stendel's Hearts, a huge statement and there is no grey area like we have seen so often under this shambles of a regime.
