I remember when he was doing well early on, reading an interview with Brad McKay (I think) talking about how much ability he had - he talked about how he 'just wanted to play football', and wasn't interested in any of the other stuff. Remember thinking even then that the fact we see that as a good thing is part of the problem with Scottish football, although I obviously hardly exactly saw him being washed up at 27.
As has been alluded to above, guys like Riordan/O'Connor/Griffiths have still managed half decent careers in spite of their attitude and lifestyle because they were genuinely very talented. Walker was decent, but not really on that level - even at his best he had a tendency to go missing in the big games.
He's also fucked up his career in a far less entertaining way. Not a big drinker, actually teetotal at one stage at least, but just lived off of Findus crispy pancakes and couldn't be arsed training.
Is part of the problem with football that it matters more whether you eat crisps or not compared to how much talent you have in your locker.
As we reflect on Diego Maradona's was passing and tune into Harry Winks and Eric Dier at the summit of the premier league.
