A MAN had his wallet stolen after being duped by a bogus police officer.

The 35-year-old victim was walking on South Bridge when two men approached and showed fake police ID.

They asked to see the manâ€s ID, but when he pulled out his wallet they grabbed it from him and tried to take his bag.

Police are now appealing for anyone who was in the area of Chambers Street and South Bridge at around 3.30am on Saturday morning to contact police.

The victim , who is Asian, was wearing a dark jacket and white trousers and carrying a laptop bag.

The first suspect is described as white, with short dark hair, early 30s, approx 5ft 10in tall, and wearing a water proof black jacket, blue jeans, and beige timberland style boots.

The second suspect is described as white, with short dark hair, early 30s, approx 5ft 10in tall and wearing a sports jacket or blazer, blue jeans, and dark shoes with white soles.

Detective Constable Christopher Harding said: “The suspects not only imitated police officers but also took advantage of a man who was making his way home after a night out. Anyone who recognises the description of the suspects, or was in the area at the time, is urged to come forward to police.”

Would let him off on the grounds - which I'm sure have firm basis in our legal framework - that the victim was a cretin and deserved to be robbed Cool
