1917.

A truly wonderful piece of cinema. Only downside was the lack of thanks afforded to Heart of Midlothian for single handedly winning the war.

What's the deal with the attempt to make it look like one take? Heard them chatting with Mendes yesterday but still couldn't work out what they're talking about ... is it basically just following some boy with a note, and they've manged to stretch it into a movie?

It's one continuous shot. So it doesn't pan to someone else doing something else. Follows the story of them delivering orders to delay an assault on the Germans. It does a really good job of showing the proper waste of human life that conflict was. A lot different from other war films, because there aren't loads of running gun battles and violence in a 'Call of Duty' kinda sense. Honestly, go see it.

An absolute shoe in for the Oscar this year.

I should add the delivery includes them having to cross enemy lines, rather than just a boy nipping down the lines to pass a message to the next trench.

Saw the trailer for it prior to the star wars film, and it looked great (obviously) but if I'm honest I didn't think "I must see it' ... I will of course. Sound

Is it more engaging than Dunkirk? Bit bored of World War films.

that was kind of the point with Dunkirk wasn't it? the rising sense of dread and impending doom without very much actually happening.

Doesn't really translate to a riveting film experience mind Warnock

Generally I prefer interesting dialogue Over long action/battle scenes, but still found the film boring.

1917 9/10

The most authentic depiction of the horrors of WW1 trench warfare I think I've ever seen.

It barely let's up and you are glad of the few quiet moments to break the tension.

Loved it. Would definitely recommend seeing it on the big screen though.

Saw it last night. It was superb. As you say I've never quite seen anything that makes you feel like you're in the trenches like that. When I saw it was styled as a single take I thought it would be a hard watch but it was gripping from start to finish.

Thought it was excellent.

He used Colin Firth, Mark Strong and Cumberbatch perfectly to pull you out the mud and bleakness.

Thought Cumberbatch nearly stole the show and he was only on screen for about 3 mins.
