Incendies
Hadn't watched this in years. Great film about two Canadian twins whose mother leaves instructions in her will that make them learn about her youth in a Middle Eastern nation (not named, but fairly obviously based on Lebanon) during a civil war.

Tenet.
You need a PHD in physics to have a proper grasp of this one. It sort of becomes clearer at the end for the dumb dumbs but it's really complicated. Read someone describe it like a parody of a Christopher Nolan film which has gone too far and that is about right. Visually stunning as usual and the music is incredible. Has to be seen at the pictures.

Left Behind - 10/10. Watch this immediately, it's on Netflix.
Nicolas Cage, an airline pilot, is going through a rough spell in his marriage due to his wife having become an Evangelical Christian. His daughter, also uncomfortable with her mum's conversion, surprises him by coming home from college for his birthday, but he's flying to London so he can take the air stewardess he's having an affair with to see U2 (?) While he's in the air, millions of people on earth suddenly vanish into thin air. He has to get the flight home safely and get back in touch with his daughter , who was upset to find out he was having an affair. Anyway, he gets the flight back home safely with his daughter's help. Turns out the reason all those people disappeared was

Read a review saying that it's 'not even so bad it's good', a position with which I strongly disagree

Watched Icarus last night, about Russian state-sanctioned doping in sport. Scary stuff. Wouldn't fancy blowing the whistle in the knowledge that the FSB will hunt you down.

Don't think anyone would be able to tell by looking if you'd been Litvinenkoed.

Boyhood (2014), 7.5/10
Actually thought Ellar Coltrane might be Hawkes' son irl. Anyway, believable portrayal of the life on a kid and his family in suburban America.

Psycho (1960), 6.5/10
It's okay.

The were showing The Lighthouse at the pictures so went to that tonight. Really good watch - both actors are in to it and the mad stuff holds together well and builds well.
Great to think that it and Gonnae No Dae That both have the same source. |
