I saw it before The Departed was a thing, so have always preferred it. It’s so good though - Tony Leung is the boy GodIsGod

Watched a few films over the weekend:

LA Confidential - 10 - easy in my top 5 ever, cannot be beaten jjay

The Highwaymen - ? - turned it off after half an hour. How they managed to make a film about bonnie and Clyde that was this boring, I do not know. If it gets better, let me know and I’ll give the rest a chance.

Les Miserables - a classic Pondy 6.5 - the french day in the life of police in the projects film, not Anne Hathaway getting consumption and Russell Crowe awkwardly butchering Stars. This was decent because of the characters being so engaging / the plot was pretty nonsensical.

The Sisters Brothers - 7 - quite enjoyed this. Hadn’t heard of it before it appeared on Netflix but a quality cast (Joaquin Phoenix, Jake Gyllenhaal, Riz Ahmed and John C Reilly). It’s kind of like those wee weird, dark stories you encounter in Red Dead side missions in a way. Worth a watch

Finally got round to watching this; enjoyed it but won't watch again. That's not to say it's average, it's not its maybe a 7/10. Simply a tale of family trying to better themelves. Grandma adds a bit of comedy.

Anyone ever seen Popstar - never stop stopping?

Got the lonely island in it. The grown up part of me recognises it’s a pile of shite but the rest of me thinks it’s fucking class. Some of the songs Warnock

Warnock

I decided to sack it when they had a scene of his wife raging at him for considering taking the job, setting up a conflict, and then in the very next scene she’s encouraging him to get his bag packed apropos of nothing Monty Chuckle

The Dig, 6.5/10
Archaeology caper set in Suffolk on the cusp of WWII. Get the feeling the director/writers felt half way through that what had transpired was just going to fizzle out so they introduced a bunch of additional characters to liven it up and cater to the whole spectrume of society.

Anyway, it's way better than half the woke shit like civil rights pish you see in the Oscar nominees. Shitwine

Gregory's Girl, 6/10
It's not aged well tbh, quite a bit of mild montylewlew in there but hey it was the one and only film I saw at the Dominion.

Rocks, 6/10
A couple of great performances from young actors, although you'll have seen this before just in a different context.

Ohh, knew there was another ... Pieces of a Woman, 6/10

Watching Sound of Metal. Had dinghied it for a while as I'd expected it to be a shitty doc about a shitty metal band. But it's a drama about a guy who has gone deaf.

He's so isolated for the middle third, and most of the dialogue is in sign so the audience is too. As a covid movie it's pretty affecting.

A deaf person's review of it would be something, as there's obviously stuff being said you don't get, but you're not meant to.
