As we know, the #talkhertzfamily has a few computer and internet geeks, so looking for some laptop recommendations. I could just look about and pick up ones that will do the job but you might have some tips I'd otherwise be clueless about.

I need to buy one or two for the office, just need to be solid and reliable, will be used for remote desktop/cloud applications and some internet and word processing. Cheap is good. Could probably just buy anything tbh.

Also looking to get myself one which can double for work and home use. I've got an HP Probook with an i5 chip just now, which was decent to start with but it is ready to pack in after only 2 years. Will mainly be using it for work and internet, but also downloading, streaming but I'd like to have more options for better performance with graphics and soundcards. Might as well get something decent under cover of 'business use.' Laugh

Also the one for myself needs to have Partidge-esque style points for sitting on my own drinking shitey weak lattes in starbucks.

You're right in saying that pretty much anything off the shelf will fit the bill specs wise. No need to fret over that. I'd look at form factor and physical functionality instead. I got the Yoga 13 2 recently and it's the bollocks. It folds backwards to various stand modes which are great for watching telly. I'm not a fan of the keyboard between you and the screen when watching shit, ruins the immersion.

I have that ^^

It was following to pieces after a month. Last HP I bought the video and sound card was just crashing to fuck trying to watch a youtube video. Birds HP laptop also fucked after a short amount of time. Genuinely avoid.

I appreciate I could just buy any one of these and be happy, but anyone who is into this stuff got any choices from the following?

http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/st/laptop...500-pounds

I need to buy 3, one for the house, one for me at work, and another for a colleague. I might be tempted to go cheaper with 2 of them and use the rest of the cash towards a macbook for the house. Not sure though. Haven't had a mac for years.

Any recommendations on where to pick up a decent laptop bag? Had a look on John Lewis and PC world but they weren't that great.

Needs a few pockets for all my different flyers obv lol.

As long as she can do her work on Google Docs / Sheets / etc; the Microsoft apps available on Chromebooks aren't very good.
