Black tie event (Woy ) next Saturday. Kilt outfit acceptable? If so, do I need to buy a black bow tie to go with it?

Duty calls, Tel. Monty Oh Well Was meant to be seeing Cleopatrick at the Garage that night, but it's a relatively small event that I've been invited to and can't miss for various career-related reasons. Monty Oh Well

Yup, definitely need to get a black bow tie to go with the kilt. At least it avoids the whole tuxedo situation. Monty Oh Well

Monty Ooh

One of the strongest views I hold is abolish black tie.

Just wear a kilt however you would normally wear one (NB not with a Stew Mel rugby shirt) and that will qualify you. The bigger question you should be asking is do you really want to be aligning yourself to the type of event that demands black tie in 2022. Ayeok

I completely agree, but unfortunately black tie is the least of my worries when it comes to daft work-related attire. Warnock

If not wanting to wear a bow tie, I would go with a slim black tie, maybe a knitted one. Will it be with a prince charlie jacket?

I've got an argyll jacket in green tweed but not sure I'd wear it to a full on black tie event as its a day jacket really, but depends on the level of formality i suppose.

I got a slim tuxedo (which I actually really like), a few years ago for a particular event and it's hung in the wardrobe ever since. Woy

Please. Tim I know I'm naff, but I'm not that naff.

Argyll jacket and waistcoat. If I can get away with a black tie then I'll do that. Sound I'm sure it won't be the end of the world either way.

If it's a super formal black tie event then the Prince Charlie actually looks smarter, imo.

The problem is at weddings etc...it looks a bit overdressed.
