Last time I heard about something on facebook was my boomer father in law telling me he'd heard a recording that said gargling boiled salt water was the cure for covid. That was way back at the start too.

I use it to see what's happening where I used to live ... great for hunting pictures/stories and local info, etc. In these places where travelling to see extended family is prohibited due to cost, and bandwidth is generally too poor to afford the use of face-to-face apps like Skype, Meet etc it's been a godsend for folks up there. Lots of the young team, (well the burds if we're being accurate) also use Insta as well but then that's just a sexy version of Facebook!

It works for loads of folks who aren't cunts too! Monty Oh You

It's annoyingly useful for looking for accomodation, local community groups/businesses and using facebook marketplace. As a typical social media tool it's absolutely redundant. I deleted mine that had 500+ contacts and set up a new one with 70 contacts and I just keep all personal information off (even though they have it all already no doubt).

My understanding is that this is what the 'metaverse' thing is about. When FB first started becoming big it was trendy for a bit, and Zuckerberg leaned into that, following which it just became a part of daily life for most of us. Now that it's been superceded by other social media (albeit often owned by Facebook) and is largely seen as a boomer cringe site by everyone under 40, he's instead leaning into being something no-one really likes or wants, but which you need to lead a fully normal life.

I know, I know it's the Guardian so take it with a pinch of salt but surely folks far brighter than me can solve this problem ...

Question: Why do we need GPs to see hypos that have a sore throat?
Answer, possibly: I'm guessing you can probably go see a woman in a pharmacy with half-moon specs but most divs don't know this?!
Solution: Advertise. Also, allow folks to self-diagnose online, with wee pill lockers at petrol stations/Asda that you can pick up within an hour or two. Monty Oh You

Qu: Why don't we produce more docs?
An: Seems policy is to rely on medical pros from abroad? We're too thick and/or lazy to do the time?
Sol: Invest more in education. Restructure the profession so that you don't have to spend six yrs min to get pissed on! Stop keeping people alive.

Och .... I'm bored now! Hope they sort it out. Sound

Aye it’s a total crutch, I want off of Facebook completely and sever my ties with the lizard guy but he keeps me hanging in there. Much preferred gumtree etc... but now more people use marketplace. Just being nakedly leveraged into retaining/using their services.

Aye, it's really hard to avoid. I want to get a VR headset but the leading brand by far is Oculus, which is owned by Facebook and requires a Facebook account to use. Monty Oh Well

I haven't used facebook since 2007 but I do use WhatsApp (VERY grudgingly for family reasons) so he's even got his claws in me.

The whole VR/augmented reality shite is going to be everywhere in a few years isn’t it? Robbie

There’ll have to be a second wave Amish movement where people like me can live in a world frozen after the advent of Tinder but before pokemon go.

Covid passports were just the beginning. Have we drawn up plans to take this website into the dark web? Monty Oh Well

2011 - the present has consisted of the powers that be noticing the insurgent democratic potential social media demonstrated during the Arab Spring and steadily aiming to ensure that nothing similar can happen ever again.

My nephew got 7 straight A's and was fluent in 3 languages at 16 and applied for a laugh. They sent a letter back recommending him to re-apply when he was 18  jjay
