The idea of rigged elections runs really deep with republican voters; it'll play well with his shrinking base. He's just prepping his excuses.

Gerrymandering is less of a concern for republican voters apparently.

Few are quite as blatant as Texas Congressional District 2

Both Congressmen are Republican, both staunch Trump supporters.

It's such a blatant subversion of democracy, so obvious in its intent and practice and so easy to prove and gets so little coverage. It's even got a great name.

I'm terms of doing absolutely everything they can to ensure the historically disenfranchised remain that way the republicans are genuinely masterful at it.

Good thread. Could do something similar for the clown in No. 10, too.

If there's one thing we know, it's that fighting fascism with people writing twitter threads has worked brilliantly thus far.

I do think Covid is likely to end up being good for centrists in electoral terms tbf. It's already very apparent that no matter what you might think of the politics of centrist technocrats, in the context of a pandemic you're a million times safer with them in charge than any of the various right-wing populist clowns currently in power. Whether that becomes apparent enough quickly enough to impact the American presidential election remains to be seen.

Bear in mind though that some of his base think the virus is a worldwide hoax to make sure Trump loses the election Warnock

Yeah, I'm not arguing that his base will have their minds changed by pretty much anything at this point Warnock I think that in the USA or elsewhere, people who might otherwise have abstained or been tempted by right populism without being completely won over by it might be more likely to vote for centrists who, if nothing else, have largely been pretty competent in dealing with Covid.

Apparently the US election is decided on five states by approximately 80,000 voters Crowe

Just shows how none of this matters beyond how it plays with a small number of yankydoodles

Still around 100 million who don't vote though. If the black vote can be mobilised Trump is finito.

I'm sure I read something that said there needs to be over 90% engagement in some black areas for their votes to make a difference.

Hekens  it’s not about mobilising it’s about letting them actually vote freely without massive queues at voting places and/or “system issues”.

The primary elections in Georgia Monty Oh You

If there is any slight positive to take from polling*, it’s that Biden is well ahead of Trump in most of them, and in areas where the Republican turnout is often inflated in polling such as Florida and Texas, Biden is either ahead (Florida) or neck-and-neck (Texas).

Nb. Texas won’t vote for Biden, but it just shows the trouble Trump is in.

* Polling isn’t guaranteed, and people often point the NY Times/CNN/Huffpost headline that have Clinton a 98% chance to win when polls closed in 2016. However, people forget the polls were pretty much spot on in 2016 and the result was in the margin of error of most polling companies, but that’s a different topic.
