'Broscience', ffs.  You're posting links to three-week studies on one subject, followed by some vague comments about insulin, and accusing me of broscience?  I deleted the post because I decided to write something more substantial.  I completely maintain that you're an idiot if you believe this shit.

It's ok, Makween. I'm not sure why you're getting your panties in a knot because someone has found success with a diet plan that doesn't involve ice cream and rom coms. Believe it or not, not everyone's goal is to be big and strong like you. For some, it's simply a need to lose weight. You can cut your calories to 500 a day and hate how hungry you are, and lose like a pound a week in the process. Or push the boat out and try something new. I'm not trying to preach, I wasn't citing anything until you came trying to swing your dick about the place. I don't count calories. I tallied up what I ate over a few days at the start to see what I was hitting with my macros, and that's what I showed you. I hit my recommended amount of calories daily, and I've lost weight in the process.

Thems the facts, man. You don't need to be versed in the laws of thermodynamics to give friendly anecdotal dietary advice on a football message board.

My advice doesn't apply to Roger because he doesn't want to go to the gym and build muscle, but he's going to the gym and seeing 'gains'.

I do. Thrice weekly at the gym. No cardio. I've had the same results doing the diet with no exercise though.

"What's cooking in the talk hearts family kitchen?"

Like any family, an inevitable descent into a bitter squabble by the looks of it.

^^ Panties in such a knot right here.

Literally all I've done here is question the assertion that there's some special magic to low carb diets that allows you to lose weight whilst not in a deficit.  2,600 calories for someone your height/weight will be a deficit.

My advice with diets, beyond energy balance and good macros, is always to find an approach that works for you and stick to it.  Some people feel brilliant on low carbs: good satiety, high energy levels and not moody (I suspect you're getting the first two but not the third, as you seem permanently raging on here).  Under those circumstances it makes complete sense to stay on a low carb diet.  I pulled you up for implying there's some special magic to it beyond that; if it was just about the low carb approach I'd have already said something on one of the many other occasions on which you've mentioned it.

Still, if misrepresenting what I said seems like a good way of backing away from your earlier implications that there's some inherent magic to low carb diets then keep going with it.

As far as I'm aware the "magic" is forcing your body into ketosis. What's your view on that?

How much would I expect to lose on 2600 calories a day of HFHC?

My view on the 'magic' of ketosis (both in terms of keto vs. higher carb approaches and keto vs. non-ketogenic low carb approaches, with a bonus study on physical performance):

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23035144
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16685046
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15507148/

If you're genuinely interested you'll read and try to understand those. Here's one on physical performance which is more favourable (I'm unaware of any good studies on body composition):

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/6865776

There's basically no such thing as 2600 calories of HFHC at your height, weight and activity level as on 2600 calories you'd always be in a deficit. Based on the research above I'd suggest that on moderate carbs and fat you'd lose a bit less weight due to the water retention issues already covered (although you would still have lost some water weight, so the difference in weight loss probably wouldn't be that great) but that changes in body composition would likely be about the same (all of which assumes adherence. If you find LCHF easier to adhere to, which you do, then the debate's completely redundant).

Love oxtail soup but it takes an age and too much removing meat from the tail making it.

Inspired by Rog-the-former-podge I attempted baking kale tonight - had it with chicken (using El Paso fajita spice (all sainsburys had)) along with peppers and tomato.

Very nice. Kale really is lovely - is it really good for you if drizzled in olive oil with lots of pepper and a bit of salt?

Anyway - cheers Rog

Looks decent that.

I've got a funny relationship with Kale. The one time I tried it, I had a horrendous bout of the shits/spew everywhere due to a bug and I always associate it with Kale. Fat Cunt

i always use kale as the base for stirfries - works really well. Sound Give it another bash AP. How do you guys go about baking it, btw? Any tricks?

I don't mind the last couple of pages of fighting, because it's been of a higher standard than usual. "Low on brain glycogen" and "diet of ice cream and rom coms" were highlights for me. Warnock

Rog, where do you get your chicken? 500g for tea a day sounds expensive.
