Connor Smith is one that baffles me. As has been said we chucked him in big games and he done really well. Now fannying about in pub leagues and you just know he's not going to get a chance at Hearts.

I seen a few folk, not necessarily on here, but mainly twitter, face book etc give the previous argument about how many young players don't come back to haunt us after being let go. I've got two major problems with that:

1) If no one comes back to haunt us it shows that our youth policy/recruitment isn't actually very good. If we are consistently recruiting poor youngsters then of course none of them will come back to haunt us

And/or

2) Players don't actually develop when they are with us. They show promise when they first sign but aren't properly coached or managed during their stay with us, not really getting any game time and ultimately don't progress because of it. They receive the random appearance away to Rangers or Celtic and then disappear from sight. Inevitably they don't develop from languishing in the reserves or on loan at some lower league side, without any real coaching for first team experience. Players don't improve, they stagnate and are ultimately let go.

Next season will be the eighth under Budge and in that time we've only really received money for Hickey and Paterson, the latter of which was already on the books and receiving game time before her era began so can't even take credit for the pittance we received for his sale. Hickey is the only one in that time period that has come through the ranks, looked the part and sold for money. And even then we only got one full season from him.

Hickey was with us as a kid, Celtic ages 12-16, then a year in our youths and a year in our first team. He sorta came through our ranks.

Are Hickey and Patterson the only two successes we’ve had since Craig Gordon? vladchin

Did Lee Wallace come through our youth system? We got a couple of million for him did we not? Can’t think of anybody else though

One thing that always gets me with the 'players don't come back to haunt us' argument is that being released can in itself be a huge turning point for young players who have been at the same club since childhood. That a player got released and didn't immediately find a new club, kick on and end up leapfrogging us to play at a higher level doesn’t mean he wouldn't have developed and improved if we'd kept him.

No Warnock

Guys like Berra, Driver, McGowan, or even Eggert Jonsson spring to mind as players who, to a greater or lesser degree, did well for us after coming through the youth system. Would say that until the current regime we had a half decent conveyor belt producing players who, if nothing else, were at least able to be decent members of our first team.

I'd say that's ridiculous, but that seems to be about average for a keeper in woman's football :misogynyyay:

Everything about that is amazing Zlat

Why would a keeper ever take a free kick from that position in the first place? Monty Chuckle

Thinking about it that made it 1-1 in injury time. Presumably Forfar didn't think to put the ball anywhere near our keeper for the first 90 minutes if they hadn't scored before then?

I used to think women's football was funny but it actually just annoys me now because apparently you have to take it seriously.
