Hurricane Irma’s epic size is being fuelled by global warming

Naw it's no. That's normal. It's people being in the path of the hurricane that's abnormal.

It's a fucking massive hurricane, but it's not bigger than Andrew was 25 year ago which ruined most of the southern half of Florida.

Global warming is a definitely a thing and it's definitely due to our influence, however one massive hurricane can't be said to be a direct result of it.

Ah, Andrew. My family spent 3 weeks in the US and Canada that summer: the first two touring around New England and southern Canada in a motorhome. Then we travelled for a week to Captiva Island, west Florida.

Upon arrival in the most humid place I've ever been (only Mombasa gets close), little old me, excited by having like 50 TV channels to choose from, turned the telly on... and settled on The Weather Channel. Whereupon I couldn't help but notice this GREAT BIG FUCK OFF HURRICANE no more than 30 hours away and heading right for us. Eek

I showed my parents; they said "ah, it's probably nothing". Evacuation orders followed the very next morning. Laugh We only spent a night on Captiva - a place where you'd have a shower, leave the air-conditioned apartment, and immediately begin dripping Niagras of sweat. I've never forgotten the endless queue of cars as we slowly got off the island. The place ended up battered by Andrew, ravaged. We, meanwhile, ended up in Tampa for a couple of days (miserable hellhole of a place), then naturally, Orlando.

It is, but so far, apart from Barbuda where the destruction is horrific, most islands have got lucky. Fingers crossed it burns itself out a bit before reaching Florida.

There's no doubt whatsoever that man made climate change is playing a massive part though. Hurricane Jose is following right behind too.

Well, if I were nature, I wouldn't be too impressed with humanity - to put it mildly.

Nature, however, will have the last laugh. It always does.
