Mind there is also the fact that CR7 is just a fucking great guy off the park too. Gives loads to charities. Throws priceless jerseys away into crowds for the fans. Looks after sick kids

Wee Leo got Vilanova and Martino emptied cause they wouldn't bow to his command. Both Pep and Luis Enrique quit to take time out of the game because of his shit

Every manager thats managed Cristiano always speaks of his high character and leadership qualities

Wee Leo wants £600k a week Monty Ha

You can’t slate Messi for walking into one of the best teams in the world when he was about 17 Laugh

The fact that he’s been at Barcelona all his career is something that he probably has over Ronaldo.

Just now I’d say Ronaldo has had the better career down to his international exploits but you can’t really compare until they’re both retired. Messi will likely play for a bit longer than Ronaldo.

Would that be the same League of Champions in which Messi's Barca pissed all over Juve while Ronnie's Madrid were pissed all over by Spurs? Monty Oh Well

Ronnie's Madrid, meanwhile, are 8 points behind the "fading" Messi's Barca, and in an embarrassing 4th place. Monty Oh Well

And 4 of Ronaldo's CL goals have come against renowned European superpower, APOEL. Monty Oh Well

Why do you say that?

I'd say doing it two totally different leagues is far better.

Shaun, we are talking about their whole careers here. It's a weakeness in your argument that your picking out  a Spurs game, or Real's slump this year. It shows you have nothing else.

Over the piece, Messi has been carried by Iniesta and Xavi, where teams had no idea how to deal with Guardiola's football. Meanwhile Ronaldo has had to do it all himself. The fact that Ronaldo is anywhere near Messi's trophy haul shows how superior he is.

Because Messi didn’t need to come through a smaller team like Sporting Lisbon. He was good enough for Barca basically right away which is impressive as fuck.

The pinnacle for all players are Real/Barca, Messi has been at that level all his career but Ronaldo had to work to get there.

It’s impressive as fuck that Ronaldo has been successful wherever he’s played but I’m not sure that’s a stick you can beat Messi with as he’s played at the highest level his whole career.

Zidane started at Cannes, Maradona started at Argentinos Juniors.

Starting at one of his countries best teams and moving to the biggest club in the world at 18 is an odd thing to hold against him Laugh

I’m not holding it against Ronaldo.

I’m saying you can’t hold not having a massive transfer fee or not having to play in different leagues against Messi.

It's not an argument you can use to say Ronaldo is a better player, but there will always be that 'what if' with Messi due to being being a one club guy.

That Barcelona team was created for him from a very young age, it would be interesting to see if he was as good in a different environment. When Barcelona haven't played that way he hasn't looked the best of all time. For me it is far more impressive to do it convincingly in a few different footballing cultures.

Messi would toil in England for example, when teams defend well against them or Barca don't play well he just looks lost and out of ideas.

Teams are always going to be built around sensational players like Messi/Ronaldo etc though.

The fact that Messi was the best player in that Pep team says a lot about his ability. You can’t just put a random striker upfront and have the fluidity that that team had. He was one of the main reasons that team clicked and were so successful.

There’s not a team in the world that Messi or Ronaldo wouldn’t walk in to, its a wee bit of an Android v apple debate.

Fwiw I don’t really care that much and I’m no really invested either way. Don’t believe Messi is fading away or that though. Him and Ronaldo are just in a completely different league all together. Class that there’s the rivalry that keeps them competitive as fuck and trying to smash each other’s records.
