Seems to be a bit of a trend at the moment; no doubt AP will be on board with this fad soon. Clearly we all benefit from slowing down on drinking sometimes, or taking a wee break, but got no time for the folk who preach it because they have had two wines and wake up ill in the middle of the night, like in the article below.

It seems to be quite an american thing. You come across loads of folk in their twenties saying they're 'sober' and fighting addiction, and wonder how much could they have been drinking to come to a stage at 25 that you are an alcoholic. Were they really drinking as much as a british student who is out 5 night s a week. Laugh

Interesting article here.

Agree with this:
Quote:“I wasn’t saying ‘I can’t have it anymore.’ I was giving myself the opportunity not to have it — because I really didn’t feel like it.”
“There is such a thing as occasional, pleasurable, no-big-deal, not-dependent, just-enjoys-it drinkers,” says Wilsnack. “Sobriety experiments could cause those folks to overthink or even pathologize something that isn’t a problem for them.” On the other hand, she says, you can’t know for sure that you’re in that camp unless you try sobriety and find you can handle it. Wilsnack also notes that some studies on a “controlled drinking” treatment model suggest that even among problem drinkers, there is a minority who may do just as well, if not better, with a moderation approach to alcohol rather than true sobriety.

Those moderate drinkers who are not at risk for addiction may benefit from a sobriety experiment in other ways: “The negative changes in mood and functionality that can come with alcohol arrive incrementally,” DuBreuil says. “It’s like a tide coming in; you don’t notice it until your beach towel is already wet. And sometimes it isn’t until you take that complete break from alcohol that you’re able to see its impact.”

Could do with a quiet week myself tbh. Eek

I feel i enjoy myself a lot better when i'm not bevvying and hungover tbh.  I'm not massively into drinking and there's only a few things i genuinely do enjoy rather than just drinking because everyone else is.

I replaced it with something else so not exactly sobriety but finding something that didn't leave me feeling like death the next day while still being able to enjoy myself the night before.  Sobriety is pointless imo unless you have a genuine problem with self control.  Think as a country we could look at our attitudes on alcohol but cutting it out altogether is a bit extreme.

I just like taking a break now and then because when I do drink I always take it to extremes and have to then deal with 2-3 days of feeling absolutely shite so drinking a lot of weekends consecutively can start getting a bit over the top.

The bird isn't much of a drinker either and she doesn't really understand the whole going to the football and drinking pretty much all day culture so that's another reason to have a break from that for a while every so often.

Last time I had a lot to drink was about five weeks ago, and the hangover was a two-day affair so horrific I've barely even thought about a drink since. Monty Ooh

Used to be I'd have 1-2 beers on a Saturday night with a meal or while watching a game, now that the time difference is 5 hours behind (used to be 8 ahead) I don't do that anymore. The attitude towards drinking here is obviously a lot different to Japan or Korea.

They enjoy a drink in Japan but the drinking culture in Korea is something else entirely, a lot of convenience stores would have wee plastic tables and chairs and actively encourage people to get a carry-out and tan it outside the store. No restrictions on sales, pubs and clubs would stay open as long as there were people inside so combine that with a truly horrific work culture and a passed out businessman was a pretty common sight at any given time of the day.

Sad

My mistake is saying yes to too many things (apart from to silly questions asked by silly politicians Smug )

So I regularly end up out/drinking 2/3 times a week. Love it though tbh but does get tiring

I don't even have a drink in the house, extremely rarely I'll have one or two beers. It's usually all or nothing for me, I'm either not drinking at all or I'm getting wired in to excess.

I still feel absolutely brutal Monty Ha

My aim going forward is to have 6 or 7 pints on either a Friday or Saturday and that's it (or none if nowt is going on). I know I can feel fine from that on a Monday. This is just a joke.

Barely drink at all anymore. The missus doesn't drink and with the bairn now I just don't ever see the appeal. Never found it a good look when the men in my family would get mortal around their kids leaving their wives to mop up and look after them. Just really embarrassing. Think I've had about 2 nights out on the lash this year and don't miss it at all. Getting smashed every night was fun in my twenties and when at Uni but just see it as a bit cringey when you get older. Each to their own obviously.

I’ve been the same for years, only drink on nights out but on occasions when I have to drive I’m fine not having to drink

Couldn’t tell you the last time I was utterly smashed and I never drink at home purely because it doesn’t interest me

Also I’ve never really been a beer or a wine person and only drink vodka when I’m out so sitting with a beer watching the football or a wine with dinner isn’t an option
