Osprey are the top dogs for hiking but I’m not sure if it’s possible to carry a rucksack in an urban environment without looking like a pervert.

Maybe Patagonia or North Face if you're wanting to go a hike with it.

In and about town you're better with a wee duffel bag if you don't want to look like a peed.

I almost dismissed your duffel bag shout as I need to cycle everyday, but after googling there are some duffel bags with proper straps...  Levein Chin

Quite like the patagonia one you linked, but preferably a little bigger.

Something from trakke or another messenger style. Get some really nice leather or waxed cotton efforts.

Depends how much you need to carry when out walking.

I've got a Dakine heli pack (12l) which is neat enough, fits a laptop, is fine for summer walks with less to carry. Good when skiing as it's quite slim. I

Millican bags are supposed to be decent.

Can't believe there's still folk that uncomfortable with their masculinity that they can't handle a rucksack for fear of being labeled a pedo Laugh

There’s a distinct difference between rucksack and backpack for me. Rucksack is something that would be used by a discerning male whereas a backpack would be worn by a borderline weirdo/beast.

Got some nice advice on this thread, opted for Osprey based on selection in store and your recommendation.   Sound

It's a Duffel/rucksack, so much appreciated for that suggestion (floyd and Walt I think it was)

Got an Osprey for my travels with a wee backpack that you can zip on and off to the big duffel bag.

Was absolutely brilliant. Probably have it for the rest of my life with how good quality it is.
