Argentina on paper should probably piss that tournament, Messi is part of a team playing well below itself, he's also the captain I believe, he needs to shoulder some or arguably most of the blame. Dressing room must be a toxic environment.

With Ronaldo and Portugal it's the exact opposite, great team spirit there.

At this stage Messi is showing himself to be a fraudulent footballer. That can’t be denied.

What he once had he has now lost.

Imagine the state of you to sit and compile every mistake made by 10-13 players in a match so you can white knight Lionel Messi, one of the most fawned over footballers in history Comical Ally

What an achievement it would be to avoid being the 9th worst side in a tournament when Qatar are in your group Warnock

Same with Icardi I’m sure. Absolute plethora of world class strikers and none of them get a call up because they don’t get on with Saint Leo :Laugh

Get rid of Messi and I guarantee Argentina would be better off. Imagine Aguero and Icardi up top with Dybala pulling the strings in behind Dismay

For someone as shy, humble and quiet as Messi (so said Lawson, anyway), he certainly likes to put the kybosh on careers. Zlatan and Neymar can sympathise with Dybala Monty Oh Well

I think it’s down to having to shoehorn Dybala in to the system they play but don’t let that get in the way of a good story  Trumppy

I'm being 100% genuine when I say Argentina would be a better side without Messi. When you have Messi or Ronaldo naturally the team will evolve around them and in the case of Argentina it just doesn't work, I think they'd be a better team without him in it.

It's possible of course.  However, I can't see how any team is better off without the greatest player of his generation, and possibly of all time; it just doesn't compute.

If you're familiar with the team you'll realize that their midfield is non-existent, and their defence is just plain shite.  Now take that and then chuck coaches at them that simply don't have a clue, and it becomes pretty self-explanatory. e: I should add that this is also the case at Barcelona and has been teh case since at least their 2014-15 treble year.

As I said the other night, they've obviously gone out with a game plan that involves Messi staying higher up the pitch where he's more dangerous but inevitably the complete dearth of creativity means he has to eventually come deep.  It's happened in the last three tournaments, if you've paid attention.  They're utter dogshit.

Saying all that, I think their golden generation forwards, all in their thirties of AdM, SA and LM are shot mentally playing for this team, and will all retire for good once this tournament is over and that could well be on Sunday evening if they don't beat Qatar , and by all accounts that's 50/50 it seems.  They need to rebuild again, and if that means missing out on a couple of tournaments then so be it.  The national association, like Scotland need a complete overhaul. (fuck I'm sounding like Lawson here.   Monty LewLew )

Peru down 3-nowt to Brasil at HT. Think I'll switch over to Bol-Ven where the Vinotinto are one-up.

Watching the Brasil game on a stream of Gol tv where we're getting advertising every minute in the form of a drop down rectangle 1/12 of the entire screen below the live score box, and a pop-up 1/5 of the entire screen along the bottom. Hope this isnt a sign of things to come. Monty LewLew
