Copa America is interesting as it is probably Messi's last pop at a major international honour. I'm hoping for some good GIFs when they are pumped out. Brazil under big pressure to win it after winning every one they've hosted.

African nations is worth keeping an eye on for Djoum's performances. Seedorf rates him. Also the goalies are usually a laugh.

Why are Qatar and Japan in the Copa America?

They invite two nations every time the play it as far as I know. Read an article about there not being enough teams for the groups or something like that.

Shock that Qatar gets an invite. Monty Umm

Maybe invite Scotland sometime. Homage to Hibs teaching them how to play football?

It’s usually America and or Mexico that get an invite, but the Gold Cup is on at the same time.

The teams in that, by the way Monty Ooh

That seems more logical. I mind the gold cup was on TV one year and I watched quite a bit of it, it was horrendous quality but actually quite a decent watch. Panama looked one of the better sides and we've all seen how shit they actually are.

Unless he 'retires' again, they're changing the cycle and there's one next year.

I’m sure Lawson desperately tried to cover that up by claiming Messi was protesting against the Argentine FA or something Warnock

How does the utterly finished Falcao get in ahead of Duvan Zapata in the Colombia team? Colin

Monty Oh Well

Sir Alex had it right - Messi is a Barcelona player whilst Ronaldo would score hatricks for a Craig Levein Hearts side.

Regardless of what you think about Messi vs Ronaldo, it's a really bad take to dress up 67 international goals as a failure because his teammates also score goals. Heh

I wonder if Scotland have even managed 67 goals in the last 10 years.

Where did I say Messi was a failure?

He has won almost every trophy available to him multiple times, he is absolutely not a failure.

If we're going to go down this route of boring pedantry, I didn't say that you said Messi was a failure. I said that the graphic you posted implied that he'd failed in one specific area of his career.

The point was that his teammates having scored more than Ronaldo's is irrelevant to any comparison of the two players. But you knew that.

I said it at the world cup and I genuinely think it's true, Argentina would be a better side without Messi, when he plays it's like it has to be all about him but he always fails to deliver. There might be an odd game in qualifying where he'll grab two or three goals but as a team in the long run they'll be better off without him.

He’s not scored in 10 of his last 13 games for Argentina.
