I can play all the basic chords n shit but have came to a complete hault/mind blank.
Looking to learn scales and be able to make up my own solo's etc.

£20 an hour is cheap for a guitar teacher, and you get what you pay for.

If you don't want to pay that, youtube lessons and ultimateguitar.com are all the tools you'll need to fire out some chords.

Really? An hour passes in about 20 minutes when yer playing the guitar, then you've got to hand over 20 quid? haha.
I can already fire out some chords but i'm doing my own head in playing the same things.
I could go on youtube but the motivation levels for that are zero.
I take your point though.

Maybe i should be asking if there's any other fellow jambos in the same boat that fancy a jam?

http://www.ultimate-guitar.com is great for chords if you want to start playing different stuff, just pick an artist you like and scroll through their catalogue and try out some songs.

Youtube has millions of great videos breaking songs down and explaining the technique you should be using, but if you want correction (and it's vital at the start) you'll probably have to pay for it. If not, ask a pal who can play if you can come round and jam, they'll delight in correcting you.

Cheers for the advice.

Marty jamz on YouTube is decent for learning songs, as 2na says you’d be doing well to find a tutor for less than £20 p/h

I’ve been playing the fiddle for almost two years. Are you into Scottish music? I’m mainly doing that.

I can play a few tunes on guitar with basic chord progressions but would like to improve.

My experience with music lessons is if you can get a good teacher, the one or two things he can show you in a lesson Is worth the 20 quid and then you go away to practice them. Don’t think of it as a practice lesson think of it more as an hour with a professional and ask as many questions as possible e.g. “how do I shape my hand for this chord progression/I’m having trouble with this scale because I can’t reach this note, can you show me how you do it? Etc...) you will progress much faster and will be worth the money.

Learner Groups meet for jam sessions so you should look for them in social media sites—also the Edinburgh city council run evening classes which are subsidised. The prob do guitar ones.
