Told him if it was coming in a plastic glass, I’d just take a can of Red Stripe instead.

Guys, the Indian variant is here. More serious, more contagious and resistant to vaccines. They are getting 250,000 cases a day and 77 now in UK.

UK government refusing to stop Indian flights and Boris is off to visit Delhi for a trade deal. Monty LewLew

I was reading yesterday that the Indian government just said we can forget a trade deal if we close our borders.

https://ec.europa.eu/trade/policy/countr...dex_en.htm

‘The EU is India's largest trading partner, accounting for €80 billion worth of trade in goods in 2019 or 11.1% of total Indian trade, on par with the USA and ahead of China (10.7%).’

So the calculation is we have to keep open travel with a country that seems to have a super COVID mutation because we are looking to strike a trade deal with a country we already had a trade deal with. This is a decision that may actually put paid to our vaccination progress and lead to many more deaths in the UK.

Fantastic job, Boris Sound

Obviously Keith will miss this empty net.

What's India's vaccine program like? Every variant has been touted as the doomsday scenario that's resistant to all the vaccines and then a few days later it turns out it isn't.

Edit - 1.2% of their population is fully vaccinated. We're currently sitting at 14%.

I dunno about that, the last variant that was meant to fuck us was the South African I’m sure and that’s apparently what led to the mess over winter.

Regardless I don’t think it’s something that is just newspapers putting out doomsday scenarios for the sake of it.

The variants are obviously very problematic, hopefully we take it seriously because we’ve done a lot of good work coming out of winter with vaccines and suppressing the virus. Would be stupid not to protect that progress.

Yeah I'm not getting complacent or that, still being cautious as I've been throughout this. Just thinking it's a bit premature to be saying it's more resistant to vaccines and all that when we don't have proof of it yet.

Quote:British health officials are investigating a COVID-19 variant originating in India but as yet they do not have enough evidence to classify it is as a variant of concern, Susan Hopkins of Public Health England (PHE) said on Sunday.
Speaking on the Andrew Marr Show on BBC television, Hopkins said: "We have not got enough data about this variant yet to be able to clarify whether it's a variant of concern. We have put it as a variant under investigation."
"To escalate it up the ranking we need to know that it's increased transmissibility, increased severity, or vaccine-evading, and we just don't have that yet, but we're looking at the data on a daily basis."

The best thing you can do is ignore the state broadcaster on this.

They've let us down again and again on Covid.

The worry I have is folk are already got their eyes fully set on restrictions being lifted, rightly so like but I think if shit like this does turn out to be quite significant then it’s going to be very hard to get folk to roll back their expectations and accept any changes to coming out of lockdown.

Can’t wait until this is over and done with Fat Cunt

Don't worry about blaming the wee guy on the street that went to Safeways without a mask. If there is an Indian vaccine resistant variant the government should be closing borders/flights from the site of the variant immediately.

Nah I’m not blaming the public, I understand why people would feel like that as well.

You can almost guarantee that if this thing with the variant turns out to be bad, we’ll likely take too long to act and the public will be expected to do their bit with reducing transmission/increased restrictions again. I just think the longer it goes on and the more we promise with things open it’s so hard to get people back on side.

I dunno what other people think but around us it feels like folk have been doing their own thing for a wee while now, think it will be v hard to roll back coming into the nicer weather. Hopefully it doesn’t come to that from here on.
