I think Sarkozy has a point here tbf.

We’re Hearts - we will always have mediocre players. Better to have some home grown, cheap mediocrity who know the club inside out to fill out the squad, than bin them and spend the next 5 years spending cash money on a revolving door of foreign signings who, 90% of the time, don’t hang around or turn out to be pish. Obviously recruitment needs to be better, but we really shouldn’t be going out and spending money on guys to sit on the bench or fill the squad.

Billy King would have been happy enough with a bit part role and would have been someone capable of contributing off the bench. We got rid and now have basically no competent wingers, could actually use a guy like him now as an option Laugh

Pledges hit the 10m mark.

Not in the article but transfer of shares, to FoH, delayed until the Covid crisis passes.

You've also got the fact that every one of these transactions comes with agents fees / signing on fees etc.

It’s a lot of money. Enough to rack up a £9m wage bill for starters, and have us fucked to the point of a one in one out policy, including coaches, for the new manager Monty Oh Well

Why are we writing off Brandon as shite? When he comes on as a sub to replace an injured player, I feel very comfortable with him.

That's a fair point.

Where do you draw the line in that case? Just fill the team with academy graduates and never waste money again?

The issue is the recruitment, not releasing players who aren't good enough.

There are a few cases that could be argued like Jason Holt but even then, meh. I'd rather at least try and improve the squad than stick with pish.

Hekens

The only player mentioned I thought was in any way useful was Billy King, surprised he didn’t get a lower end spl team or dece championship.

These players aren’t good enough though and to be a top 3 club you need to aspire to better. Just our recruitment is fucking mince.

I’d probs have all 3 of those shite players over mckirdy btw he was hopeless Laugh Holt on the other hand Oooooh

Neave ruining the good points on this thread with his Mckirdy obsession. Warnock

McKirdy was a decent player though, you never know how things can work out if they get first team exposure.

Would legitimately take wee Scotty Rab back VanGaals Bitch

Dario zanatta is probs a squad player you could’ve made an argument for. He was coming into a bit of a game at times before moving on.

Aye he's a good example. Scored against Hamilton and loaned out the next day Laugh

------------------------Gordon--------------------

McGowan------Berra------Mackay-----------Hickey

Walker--------Irving-------Holt---------Driver

-----------------Scotty Rab----Paterson-------

Is that our best academy team we've produced? (I think Berra was there when our academy was set up)

Nicholson, Novikovas, McDonald and Carrick misses out. No Lee Wallace Wow

Can't count Adam King as he never played for us...Case for Eggy Jonsson to be ahead of Irving.

The best point surrounding this is that if we release fewer of these “not good enough to play regularly” guys, that leads to a higher budget for first team players - and that means we can spend on lower risk, higher chance of success type players. More Boyces/Laffertys and less Garuccios, in other words. We also had an injury crisis last year/all the time where we had to bring in all sorts of absolute garbage to cover, often out of position, and having more experienced academy graduates around would have helped.

It’s also a sliding doors scenario, where we release guys before they’ve fully developed and we never know if they could become competent squad members. You won’t get a Neilson every time, but he’s an example of someone who looked like he’d never make it but carved out a decent career for us.

Neilson was fucking shocking man. He just had a great mentality. By the time he was 28-29 he'd gathered enough experience playing beside the snake every week that he could compete at that level, but his early years man. Weekly threads on the old kickback highlighting Neilson as the weak link. Was an actual joke when he scored in europe for us. Everyone pishin themselves. Zlat
