All the wee Hendricks weirdos on Twitter saying Trump is such a brave man and has God with him, etc.

If he was so brave, why did he have the parked cleared by flashbangs, tear gas and mounted cops Woy Not Sure

Didn't even step foot in the church he cares about so much - just awkwardly held up a bible and got some photos taken.

As much as these images are totally bonkers to us I think there is a lack of understanding out with the US that both the speech and this decision to go to the Church of the Presidents will absolutely be loved by his base support. They will be thrilled he is willing to do whatever is required to restore order in the major cities, including using the military. Even through the last few days their outlook won't have been changed, many don't even live in the major cities most of which are Democrat run. You can already see that by looking on Twitter and the like.

They are not going to turn on Trump and vote for someone else so the Democrats have to find a way in the next 5 months, no time at all in the Presidential process, to change the mind of peripheral voters and indeed ensure those who won't bother to vote for anyone to go to the ballot boxes. The question therefore is; can Biden, with his advancing years and apparent deterioration mentally show the energy and find the inspiration to be the leader who people will vote for. I have massive doubts about that so who do they make their candidate? The clock is ticking.

And your addition has been?
1. "I'm friends with a black guy"
2. Completely making up a point that I didn't make? I agree, saying that it's 'only' the past 3.5 years would myopic (bet you were proud of yourself for that word, BTW). That's why I didn't say 'he has destroyed America and done the complete job in 3.5 years.'

Being a contrarian and trying to appear like the level headed, both sides guy doesn't make you look intelligent when the leader of a country is tear gassing his own citizens for a photo op and police are driving off road to run people down.

Fat Cunt

Check out the car of white folk right at the start just waving and laughing as they drive unchallenged, while the car with black people gets that sort of treatment.

I think everyone gets by now that 40+% of Americans are basket case racists.

Pick holes to fit your agenda in what I said all you like, I've been trying to give a perspective of what its like watching this shit go down in America,  it's apparent nobody is interested in that!  No sides, no claims of being intelligent, no respect for many of the politicians, just observations. There are still many things I love about this country but equally like you I watch disbelievingly at some of what is going on. That 60 million plus people will again vote for Trump in November and I know both black Republicans and white democrats, shows that there are lots of things they believe to be wrong too as they certainly aren't all racist scumbags, it goes to the heart of how different people live very different lives in a vast and diverse place. I don't know how everyone will ever be brought together.

Anyway, its not worth my while to be spouting all this to be fair so I'll stick to talking shite about Hearts from now on! Cheers.

I refuse to believe that he could possibly get re-elected after this, barring a rigged vote/refusal to leave. There cannot be enough people in the country dumb enough to watch what’s happening just now and think they’re fine with 4 more years of this.

He’ll have appealed to his base nutcase red neck racist fucks, no doubt in that at all, but the middle ground that voted for him last time will not vote for him again after this. They can’t, and if nothing else this will have encouraged more people to vote against him who haven’t voted before and/or might not have voted this time round. There’ll be minimal disillusioned non-voters.

You thinking voting will fix this?  Monty LewLew

The guy Trump is running against is quite literally the author of the crime bill which put millions behind bars and his preferred choice of VP failed to prosecute the cop who killed George Floyd when he was caught up in another incident. The country needs decisive and bold leadership and that most certainly is not Joe Biden. The DNC succeeded in stopping Sanders but at the cost of alienating a huge block of voters.

People who were for Trump before aren't going to change their minds, people are incredibly resistant to being convinced once they've made their minds up and Americans are probably the most stubborn of all. Any legitimate criticism of Trump will be called fake news/biased etc. The Electoral College means the views of people in NYC or LA don't particularly matter if he can scoop up enough rural votes. He lost the popular vote by almost 3 million last time, he'll probably lose it again by even more but it's all going to be determined by six or so states.

Hopefully Trump's gone by November but I'm not overly confident. It goes much deeper than an idiotic demagogue, this is a country in terminal decline. A healthy society doesn't elect someone like that.

Oh I don’t think it solves any problem other than getting this deranged lunatic out of a position of power, I think the track this is going down that’s the best first step to take at this point.

Easy for me to say on this side of the Atlantic and appreciate you probably know a lot better, I just can’t see how he can legitimately come back from this sort of behaviour.

Personally buzzing for our turn and for Boris to go full Donald soon so we can go to war on the Tories.

See, that's the problem.

Trump's not forever and if all people care about is getting rid of him they're just setting the ground for a far more competent and malicious Trump 2.0. There are plenty of middle-class white liberals who want nothing more than to stop caring about politics. Bombast aside, Trump's not really that different from other presidents in terms of policy. He's just so fucking crass about the really egregious shit presidents routinely do that you can't ignore it anymore. Marginalized people aren't going to be bought off with the familiar "we have to get rid of x and then we'll make changes" anymore.

I cant think of anywhere I'd rather go less than the USA right now. It really feels like it's eating itself from within. A country that's too big for it's own good sliding into a fascist dystopia. It's horrible to watch.

Trump has clearly made the situation in the US a lot worse, but it's mostly been by bringing to the surface things that were already bubbling underneath, or by saying out loud what was always implied. To take an example which is currently relevant, Obama sent the National Guard into Ferguson in 2014. Issues like systemic police brutality aren't new, although now offenders have been emboldened by knowing they have a President who supports them.

Trump represents a shift from authoritarian neoliberalism to fascism, and it's absolutely right to consider him uniquely dangerous, but any opposition to him should also direct itself against the underlying causes that allowed him to be elected in the first place.
