Had a sad work journey along the M8 this morning thinking about the 2012 final. Life's too short.

That was brilliant and devastating in one go. Genuinely welled up watching that.
Fucking heartbroken man.

Just had a thought. The street naming department in the council occasionally emails around other departments to take suggestions on board for street names around the capital. Was thinking of firing off an email asking them to look into naming one after Zal.
What's the thoughts? Good idea or a bit cringe?

Best if we do something at Tynecastle. I don't think any streets are named after football players - I still can't believe there isn't a Lt. Col. Sir Bobby Walker Street.
A statue at Tynecastle would be fitting, IMO. Maybe something up at Orium considering the impact he had on young players at Hearts and in Lithuania.

If we ever finish the main stand, I'm sure they can name a lounge or something after him.

Agreed, would prefer something at Tynecastle though so the fans can go up and have a wee look, a quiet moment, rub his boot or whatever. I'm sure something like that would create traditions within families for years to come and help to educate the younger fans on who he was and why he was so important. And retire the number 26.

There's a street named after Lawrie Reilly round the back of the Sainsbury's at Meadowbank. And a Famous Five Terrace somewhere round there too, which caused the idea to pop into my head.
Didn't think I'd ever be so upset at the passing of a footballer but I think it's come as such a shock to us all. The number 36 has just been spinning in my head over and over - how can someone so fit leave us so young. There's a 37-year-old still playing for us, for crying out loud.
Zal was a larger-than-life character who was not only a great player but a leader among men. The guy had the armband when our players went unpaid for months and what did he do? Only led us to the greatest day in our Hearts supporting lives. But it's easy to lead when you're still winning. The following season the walls started to close in on the club and Marius was there trying to give the players hope until the bitter end. I'll still remember that final game at Pittodrie and his agony when he realised he wouldn't be able to play the League Cup final. And off the park he had time for everyone. Had a teary chuckle reading the anecdotes over the weekend. Heaven has gained a leader.

Just logged onto here on my laptop for the first time in months and saw the header on the home page. Nice touch.

Anybody up for grouping a bit of money together to make a bid for this?
