Now reading Lanzarote et autres textes (that's 'Lanzarote and other texts' Fart Smelly ) by Michel Houellebecq because I love to deliberately get myself seething at things Jose

Finished this. Reading Don Quixote now as it just seems like a book someone as pretentious as me should've read.

The forgotten highlander is such a gripping and sad read.

The Japanese had a very strange philosophy to prisoners of war - absolutely barbaric.

What sort of fiction are you after, Ross? Those two that were posted earlier look like the sort of thing I'm after atm so will probably order them - taking a break from fiction after I finish what I'm reading the now, "Ask The Dust" by John Fante.

Government were total bastards to them.

If you are looking for something fictional - check out Bob Servent - Delete this at your Peril.

It’s one of the funniest books I have ever read. It’s a Scottish book about a guy replying to scam emails which he gets replies to and the emails going back and forth get funnier and funnier. Telling boys in Uganda all about Barry Robson and his left foot.

There was a poor tv show made on the back of this (and other books) - don’t be put off by that though.

Ali know a couple of posters on here have read it - pretty sure they loved it as well.

Definitely look into Haruki Murakami if you want some good fiction Sound

Norwegian Wood or The Wind Up Bird Chronicle are the best to start with.

Just finished this excellent book on the Einsatzgruppen and how men were capable of doing what they did, in many cases they weren't.

Now onto Max Hastings Catastrophe: Europe Goes To War 1914. It's terrific so far.

Really intimate accounts of a selection of guys who fought in WW2. Really interesting but grim as fuck obviously. Some of the stories where it's arms lengths fighting and folk are beating each other to death with helmets and that Fat Cunt

Should get whipped out when politicians are chucking about phrases like 'boots on the ground'.

It's a good read, particularly if you've seen the series. Can be a bit of a grind at times as they go quite deep into how nuclear reactors work but it's a fascinating account of things that happened around the time, particularly politically.

I'm on this at the moment

Got this coming today, time to get a better understanding of the situation as the media commentary is woeful

I'm only really at the part where he describes life for a miner but it's unbelievable how tough they had it. We are so fucking soft now Warnock

Still on this Heh Was largely joking about the reasons for reading it - just like to go back to a classic from time to time because, for someone doing a PhD largely on literature, I often feel like I'm not very well read. Also they're normally free on the Kindle.

Anyway, probably give this one a miss - you can see how it was so influential at the time, but from a 21st century perspective it's really boring. About 90% of the chapters are just 'Don Quixote mistakes a thing for another thing. Hilarity ensues'. Finishing it out of stubbornness.

I've spoken to maybe 20 people about Don Quixote and I think one has read beyond part one. It's fine and influential but not worth the time.

And if you want to be really pretentious
