Think we are in the process of doing just that tbh. It'll take some time though. He ran every aspect of the club.

Not on board with the idea that Neilson was the only sensible appointment to get us out the championship, it was just the most convenient for budge.

Make up your mind ma man.

Where are they performances in the league then?

We looked at that stage like we were a proper outfit again, should’ve known better.

Only pulling your chain.

Neilsons going to get more than 12 league games, particularly when 6 points clear, so this thread is pointless.

I saw you talking about going for 3rd next year the other day. I think Hearts fans need to accept where we are in the grand scheme of things at the moment. It's going to take a while to rebuild. We've been 3rd once in the last decade and that was a league without Rangers and Hibs. The aim for us should be to settle into the top 6 and that is something Neilson can achieve even if it isn't exciting.

The club has fans donating literally millions of pounds on top of all other income. Warnock Aiming for 3rd in the top league is 100% appropriate.

Don’t think we should be going off our heads at not getting 3rd first time of asking but we should at the very least be competitive at that end of the table.

You look at the teams up there and they aren’t that great, Aberdeen not as good as they used to be, already beat that hibs team, livi doing v well with a limited group of players.  With the players we’ve got and the level they’re meant to be I think being competitive with those teams is the minimum expectations for me.  Imo it would be pretty pathetic to go into next season happy to finish behind these teams.  I think pretty much every fan of Scottish football (outside OF) would be envious of some of the players we’ve managed to secure and you hear pundits like si ferry talk us up about how we’ve got one of the best squads in the country.

We’ve been taking it slow for years, constantly in transition and building towards something that doesn’t come.  I’m sick of that, we’ve been patient enough.  Our squad is good enough to do it so I think it’s time for them to deliver.

The aim has to be top 3. Anything less is under achievement. Hearts specialise in that.

I don't really agree with the idea that we should spend a few seasons finishing 6th just to find our feet.

Get a decent manager in, sign some proven players and aim for third.

In 2/3 years yes. We're not going to go from the shit show that was last season to flying this year and then third next year. It just doesn't happen.

Neilson is the guy to get us into a position to start aiming for that (and then get someone better in) but it won't always be good stuff unfortunately.

Don't think he's the wrong choice as such, but there are definitely alarm bells ringing.

It's not a great squad we've assembled, but it's one that should be dominating games and keeping it tight at the back. Its not like we've had to dip into the youth team for players. In fact, Irving is pretty much the only youngster he has any sort of interest in.

No quick fix here, sadly.

This season is definitely one you’d sim through on Football Manager Warnock

We’ll get a couple of seasons of boring, mid table shite with Neilson in the Premiership and then he’ll away to Fleetwood or something.

"We should be aiming for one or two years mid table to steady the ship" is exactly why we never do anything of note. The complete lack of ambition from the boardroom right down to the fans is what holds a club like Hearts back.

We could get a top manager in tomorrow but there's still going to be 2/3 windows worth of turnover to get a squad capable of finishing third. We've started that process. There are 3 or 4 you could see achieving it. Demanding third and going on about ambition literally means fuck all Laugh

Agreed. Fans are a big part of the continuing malaise. Budge knows that fans will fall in line.

Tynecastle was like a bear pit after Pars cup game. She was visibly shaken that day when she decided to cut Cathro loose. Things have got infinitely worse since and the fans have just taken the full podger up the ring.

Pish. There were protests every week at the end of Leveins tenure. Protesting now would just be fucking ridiculous.

If it was easy to just cut half the squad loose then I could see the arguments for going straight for 3rd but the rot in that squad is contracted for 3-4 years.

It’s going to take a couple seasons to sort it all out and that’s hoping that Macho Man gets a good hit rate on his signings.

Apart from all the complaining pretty much all sensible fans have done since then, and a good number of protests.
