The real tragedy of the climate crisis is that those who've done the least to create it are going to be the ones that suffer the most from it. The carbon footprint of the global south is minuscule but that's where climate change will hit the hardest. You don't exactly need a crystal ball to predict how a climate refugee crisis will be handled in developed nations.

The US needs to be a leader in the fight against global warming but everything about the political system is stacked against anything but upholding the status quo. Needing a 60+ majority in the Senate to do anything means next to nothing can ever get done. The chairman of the Senate energy committee, a Democrat, owns a fucking coal company and has spoken out against the elimination of fossil fuels. The country is run by ancient millionaires who'll be in the ground long before they have to deal with the consequences of their inaction. There's also the inescapable fact that minimum, 25% of the US electorate have no other ideology than contrarianism and are dumber than aquarium gravel.

I suspect the answer will be geoengineering to try to buy more time but short-term greed will keep winning out. Just as well I live inland and near a supply of freshwater because the next couple of decades aren't going to be pretty Monty Oh Well

Technological singularity? I just googled it. Do you have info on this? literature videos etc... sounds sci-fi but also oddly inevitable. Would be interested to read more about it.

The elite already have their underground bunkers, but you know it's getting serious when they're taking wee jaunts into space.
The only way we'll save this planet is if we all come together as one, no more bullshit, no more infighting, no more politics.

It's never going to happen.

Yip. As Snake says. Climate refugees. Its going to be off the scale.

But this is what gets me thinking. Surely even with that short term greed and wealth that the "top people" have, surely someone near the very top must know there is something to fix this. I mean if its fucked and irreversible then why bother going on? Whats the point for all the rich/influential people to be ignorant of this, as pretty soon their money is going to be absolutely worthless.

I think "they" have something or a technology that will at least even things out globally. Why they arent revealing it just now, i dont know. Perhaps they are milking things until the very moment, just like if you were an energy company who just found out nuclear fussion works and in 20 years time it will be commercialised and all your profits from then on are going to be massively smaller. You milk what you can while you can.

I honestly don't think they've got anything up their sleeves. They've left it far too long and now their arses are flapping.

My friend is very passionate about this. Has 3 degrees. In AI, Maths and Physics. The only professor i know Laugh

He goes around the world following conventions on this stuff with fellow scientists.

A few things he has told me blew my mind. Genuine stuff thats been tested etc. Things like, they had subjects wired up and they showed them a bit of paper that had, say a red square on it. It would show up on the parts of the brain that mapped shape and colour. In effect, he says that your eyes are just like TV screens and what is put in front of them is mapped out by the brain and they have like captured shape, colour etc. Im trying my best to remember. He says that in the future you will be able to in however way, download your dreams.

I remember walking down the road with him and seeing an amazing red sky. And said wouldnt it be amazing if your eyes could like record/photo it. Apparently its been worked on in Japan for a while.

The tech rate is increasing mentally every year.

I dont even think we will need our physical bodies in the future.

There are "top people" in this world. Above or out of reach of governments who surely will have a bigger say or at least have more influence. I'm sure there the Bilderberg group or some other top entity will be 100% aware of whats coming via climate change.

If not then why just go on as normal. Whats the point? All the top people and their families will be dead too.

This weird ignorance is what gives me some kind of faith. Its literally a global disaster for all so why are we just plugging away as somewhat normal?

There has to be technology out there to fix this.

I can’t think of any reason why we wouldn’t be using our carbon capture silver bullet if we had it tucked up our sleeves.

Was quite an eye opener when I read that the climate models that the Paris agreement is built around (to keep between 1.5-2c of warming) are only achievable assuming we develop carbon capture tech that doesn’t yet exist Eek

I think we will do it through a mixture of lots of technologies. The arctic pumps was quoted at £400 billion (maybe Dollars i cant mind). But split between countries its peanuts.

The silver bullet is getting every counrtry to completely sit at the table together with their armour of and fix it for all humanity.

They're putting their efforts into escaping from the mess they made. Their biggest concern is keeping control of the private security forces they'll need to create to insulate themselves from the rest of us savages.

"This single question occupied us for the rest of the hour. They knew armed guards would be required to protect their compounds from the angry mobs. But how would they pay the guards once money was worthless? What would stop the guards from choosing their own leader? The billionaires considered using special combination locks on the food supply that only they knew. Or making guards wear disciplinary collars of some kind in return for their survival. Or maybe building robots to serve as guards and workers — if that technology could be developed in time."

We will still be having the same discussion about this 10 years from now while the planet burns and coastal citys and towns disappear underwater. Its infuriating tbh that theres still folk out there that think it's someone elses problem or it's all a hoax, just bizarre really. People are giving thier mind a treat if they think the 1 percent have something up thier sleeve, these cunts dont care about the 99 all they care about is themselves as proven throughout human history Monty Oh Well

So many have just accepted defeat before any real substantial effort has been made to actually try and make any difference or slow the process.

It’s feels like a real chicken & egg scenario. Why should I give up everything I enjoy when everyone else isn’t going to, and the world will be fucked anyway while I live in a log cabin in the woods? Monty Oh Well

I don’t really blame Africa, China or India for looking at how we have lived for centuries and feeling hard done by that we’re now trying to tell them they can’t have it all too. How do you convince these people?

Any real change would have to come from a joint initiative from all governments of the world. I just don’t feel that sort of wartime effort is going to materialise until the world is falling down around our ears.

Agreed, especially when cunts in the UK under the gvts we have the now are so unapologetic about it.

I think a lot of people are secretly pining for some sort of miracle tech that will just sort it all out as well without us having to change much.

I’ve said for a while you need change from the top down, it’s all good telling people to try to do better but you just need to make things the most convenient option and people will do it. Feels like we need a mental infrastructure overhaul to deal with this now but we’re either too skint or too shitebag to actually get on with it. There’s all this chat of only electric cars being manufactured after X date in the near future for example, but where are all the charging points for folk to use? You seen how many were out and about on bikes during the pandemic, I’m sure there is still an uptick but you seen it tail off a lot once the traffic returned. Why are the spaces for people cycle lanes being removed rather than improved? Even chatting about elec cars and cycle lanes feels so small picture compared to the work that is actually required tbh.

You’d hope that maybe the generations coming through, growing up only knowing the climate crisis, are really going to hammer this home when they start getting into positions of power but we’re going to be about 5 decades too late at that point.

Problem for your average punter is how it's being framed. They've basically said you have to stop eating meat, get your boiler and house completely renovated, buy an expensive as fuck electric car, stop driving the car, stop holidaying abroad, live local and frugally. No cunt living today, and especially those who have grown up in the liberal 70s onwards is going to buy that shit, like ever!

But rather they need to cost it out so that folks can see that reducing each person's flying holiday to a single once every two years occasion will contribute x% to slowing the global temp, for every single country. That your green boiler will do this, that your electric car will actually save the planet that amount (I'm actually to be convinced on them, well the long-term impacts of battery production/recycling, and currently prices over the long term of teh vehicle don't I believe save you much). Etc, etc. Of course they're probably doing this but if they are they're doing a horrid job of promoting it!

Eyes glaze over when boffins/green mentalists talk about 4.5 tonnes of CO2 if you drive a 2.0 litre car three times a day in urban areas.

29% of emissions is due to transportation, that means lo & behold Monty Oh You 71% isn't. MOst cunts will fight a reduction in the 29% sector but gladly get on board fucking over the other 71%. Unfortunmately I think that requires govts and corps to listen to the populace. That aint happening until we get million person marches up and down teh country, in practically ever country. Sound
